Uzelac ( sr-Cyrl, Узелац) is a South Slavic surname and it originates from Lika and Krbava, but also from Dalmatia and Bosanska Krajina. It is predominantly used by ethnic Serbs of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Meaning The surname has a root in the verbùzēti which means "to take (away)" in Serbian and refers to the man who used to take away money from the rich and give the money to the poor. A junior national all-around champion for three consecutive years, she was considered one of the United States' most promising junior gymnasts in the late 1990s. Elliot Uzelac (born July 24, 1941) is an American football coach. He served as the head football coach at Western Michigan University from 1975 to 1981 and the United States Naval Academy from 1987 to 1989, compiling a career college football coaching record of 46–64. In June 2018, Uzelac resigned as head football coach at Benton Harbor High School in Benton Harbor, Michigan. In January 2020, Uzelac returned from retirement to become the head coach at Berrien Springs High School. Milan Emil Uzelac (26 August 1867 – 7 January 1954) was an Austro-Hungarian military commander who was a leading figure in the air forces of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the Independent State of Croatia. Early life and education Emil Uzelac was born in Komárom, in present-day Slovakia, then Austria-Hungary, on 26 August 1867 in an Orthodox family from Lika. Slobodan Uzelac ( sr-Cyrl, Слободан Узелац; born 9 August 1947) is a Croatian Serb politician who served as Deputy Prime Minister of Croatia for Regional Development, Reconstruction and Return in the second cabinet of Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and his successor in that position Jadranka Kosor.
