Uzbekistan At The Hopman Cup
Uzbekistan is a nation that has competed at the Hopman Cup tournament on one occasion, in 2003. In 2003, Uzbekistan won their qualification play-off but went on to place fourth in group A. Before its dissolution, Uzbekistan used to form part of the Soviet Union which also competed at the Hopman Cup on two occasions in the early 1990s. Additionally, Uzbekistan is a member of the CIS which entered a team into the 1992 event. Uzbekistan also participated on one occasion in the now defunct Asian Hopman Cup, a qualifying tournament which ran from 2006 until 2009 and granted the winners entry into the Hopman Cup the following year. The nation competed in 2007 and failed to pass the round robin stage of the tournament, thus denying them entry into the main event in Australia the following year. The 2003 Hopman Cup (also known as the Hyundai Hopman Cup for sponsorship reasons) was the 15th edition of the Hopman Cup tennis sporting event, held on 28 December 2002 through 4 January 2003 at the Burswood Entertainment Complex in Perth, Western Australia. Iroda Tulyaganova ( uz, Ирода Тўлаганов, translit=Iroda To'laganova; born 7 January 1982) is a former professional tennis player from Uzbekistan. Tulyaganova has career-high WTA rankings of 16 in singles (reached in June 2002) and 28 in doubles (September 2002). She won three singles titles and four doubles titles on the WTA Tour. Tulyaganova retired from professional tennis in 2010. Career She returned to the main tour in 2006 after a long injury absence, and in Kolkata in September 2006, she reached the semifinals as a qualifier, leaping more than 120 places in the rankings to No. 222 after her success. Oleg Ogorodov (Олег Огородов; born 16 July 1972) is a former tennis player, who turned professional in 1995. He represented Uzbekistan at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. His career high singles rank came on May 13, 1996, when he was ranked 101st in men's singles tennis rankings. Alternatively in doubles his career high came a year later on July 7, 1997, when he ranked 102nd. Career Ogorodov officially turned pro in 1995 and made his first singles appearance on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) challenger series tour in July. The Hopman Cup is an international eight-team indoor hardcourt tennis tournament that played mixed-gender teams on a country-by-country basis.It was held in Perth, Western Australia each year from 1989 to 2019, before being replaced on the calendar in 2020 by the now defunct ATP Cup. It is set to return in July 2023 in Nice, France. Burswood Dome
The Dome at Crown Perth (originally the Burswood Superdome and formerly the Burswood Dome) was a multipurpose indoor arena used for sports and entertainment. The dome was in size, with seating for 13,600 people. The whole arena was pressurised so that the fibreglass roof was suspended above the ground. It was a venue for indoor sports, notably the Hopman Cup tennis tournament, which was moved to the Perth Arena for the 2013 and future events, and for pop music concerts. Henry Christian Hopman CBE (12 August 1906 – 27 December 1985) was an Australian tennis player and coach. Early life Harry Hopman was born on 12 August 1906 in Glebe, Sydney as the third child of John Henry Hopman, a schoolteacher, and Jennie Siberteen, née Glad. His family then moved to Parramatta. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles).
