Utpal Banerjee
Utpal Banerjee (born 1957) is a distinguished professor of the department of molecular, cell and developmental biology at UCLA. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University, India and obtained his Master of Science degree in physical chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. In 1984, he obtained a PhD in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology where he was also a postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Seymour Benzer from 1984-1988. Banerjee joined UCLA in 1988 as an assistant professor and attained the rank of full professor in 1994 in the department of molecular, cell and developmental biology. He became vice-chair of that department in 1998, chair in 2001 until 2017, and the Irving and Jean Stone Endowed Chair in Life Science in 2009. Utpal Kumar Basu (উৎপল কুমার বসু) (3 August 1939 – 3 October 2015) was a Bengali poet and story teller. Life Born in Bhowanipore area of pre-independence Kolkata (1937), Utpal Kumar Basu spent his school days in Baharampur (Murshidabad, West Bengal) and Dinhata (Coochbehar, North Bengal). A geologist by education, Basu has traveled far and wide over the seas and years. An educationist by profession, Basu is recognized as a trend setter in modern Bengali Poetry. Utpal Kumar Basu was an eminent vernacular poet, educationist and translator. Utpal Bhattacharya is a finance professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is known for his research on market integrity, especially on insider trading. In 2000, his research paper "When an Event is Not an Event" uncovered the rampant insider trading on Mexican stock markets. This led to many questions about the value and the enforceability of insider trading laws. Later, in "The World Price of Insider Trading" he discovered the fact that insider trading laws in themselves are not effective - they only start being effective once there is credible enforcement. Additionally he could "put a price on honesty", i.e. quantify the advantage of insider trading laws and the price of "window dressing" of company earnings. Utpal Harivallabh Bhayani (10 October 1953 – 16 October 2019) was a Gujarati language story writer, playwright, critic and translator from Gujarat, India. Utpal Chatterjee (born 13 July 1964) is a former Indian cricketer. He was a left arm spinner and a low order batsman. He had his early education at the Shyambazar A.V School and Calcutta Boys' School in Kolkata, India. He played domestic cricket for Bengal and played three One Day Internationals for India in 1995.
