Uruguay Women's National Field Hockey Team
The Uruguay women's national field hockey team represents Uruguay in women's international field hockey competitions. It is controlled by the Federación Uruguaya de Hockey Sobre Césped History Field hockey in Uruguay is traditionally a sport played by the middle and upper-class, with most playing activity among private schools in the capital city, Montevideo. In 1999, the Uruguayan Olympic Committee constructed the first synthetic hockey field in the country. To ensure better player retention, an U17 team was created in 2002. By 2003, efforts were underway to introduce the sport to more state schools. Field Hockey At The 2022 South American Games
Both the men's and the women's field hockey competitions at the 2022 South American Games were the fourth inclusion of hockey at the South American Games. Both tournaments were held in conjunction with one another between 3 – 12 October 2022 at Centro Nacional de Hockey in Luque, Paraguay. The top two teams in each tournament will qualify for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. 2013 Women's Pan American Cup
The 2013 Women's Pan American Cup was the fourth edition of the Women's Pan American Cup, the quadrennial international women's field hockey championship of the Americas organised by the Pan American Hockey Federation. It was held between 21 and 28 September 2013 in Mendoza, Argentina. The tournament doubled as the qualifier for two major international tournaments: the winner would qualify directly to the 2014 Hockey World Cup, and the three teams not qualifying through the 2014 South American Championship or the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games would qualify for the 2015 Pan American Games to be held in Toronto, Canada. The Women's field hockey tournament at the 2019 Pan American Games will be the 9th edition of the field hockey event for women at the Pan American Games. It will take place over a twelve-day period beginning on 29 July, and culminated with the medal finals on 9 August. The winner of this tournament will qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Qualification A total of eight women's teams qualified to compete at the games. The host nation (Peru) received automatic qualification. The top two teams at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games and 2018 South American Games also qualified. The top two teams not yet qualified from the 2017 Pan American Cup (after the results from the above two tournaments are taken into account) also qualified. Field Hockey At The 2015 Pan American Games – Women's Tournament
The women's field hockey tournament at the 2015 Pan American Games was held in Toronto, Canada at the Pan Am / Parapan Am Fields from July 13 to 24. For these Games, the women competed in an 8-team tournament. The teams were grouped into two pools of four teams each for a round-robin preliminary round. All teams will advance to an eight team single elimination bracket. The United States are the defending champions from the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, defeating Argentina, 4–2 in the final. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick.
