Urosaurus Graciosus Shannoni
''Urosaurus'' is a genus of lizards, commonly known as tree lizards or brush lizards, belonging to the New World family Phrynosomatidae. Description Species in the genus ''Urosaurus'' can be distinguished from members of the genus '' Sceloporus'' by the presence of a gular (under neck) fold and granular lateral scales. They can be distinguished from members of the genus ''Uta'' by the presence of enlarged (sometimes only slightly) dorsal scales. It is important to note that these lizards come from a different family than lizards like the common side-blotched lizard which comes from the family 'Uta'. Reproduction ''Urosaurus'' have been used as a model system in lizard life-history studies, and populations produce two or more clutches of eggs per year. Field studies have also shown a cost of reproduction in a natural New Mexico population of the species ''Urosaurus ornatus''. Species In the genus ''Urosaurus'' there are 8 species which are recognized as being vali ...

Urosaurus Ornatus
''Urosaurus ornatus'', commonly known as the ornate tree lizard, is a species of lizard in the family Phrynosomatidae. The species is native to the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. The species, which was formerly called simply the "tree lizard", has been used to study physiological changes during the fight-or-flight response as related to stress and aggressive competition. Its life history and costs of reproduction have been documented in field populations in New Mexico and Arizona. This species has been fairly well studied because of its interesting variation in throat color in males (within a population) that can correlate with different reproductive strategies,Hews DK, Thompson CW, Moore IT, Moore MC (1997). "Population frequencies of alternative male phenotypes in tree lizards: geographic variation and common-garden rearing studies". ''Behavioral Ecology and Sociobiology'' 41: 371-380. Appearance The ornate tree lizard may grow to a snout-to-vent len ...

Urosaurus Graciosus
The western long-tailed brush lizard (''Urosaurus graciosus'') is a species of lizard in the family Phrynosomatidae. The species is native to the southwestern United States and adjacent northern Mexico. Habitat and geographic range ''U. graciosus'' occurs in the Mojave Desert and the northwestern Sonoran Desert in the U.S. states of California, Arizona and Nevada, and in the Mexican states of Baja California and Sonora. Common name This species received its common name, long-tailed brush lizard, due to its tail, which is more than twice the body length, and due to its almost always being encountered on a tree or shrub. Behavior The long-tailed brush lizard's gray or tan coloration keeps it well camouflaged against branches while it waits for insects. Unlike most other phrynosomatid lizards, which bury in the sand at night during warm weather, ''U. graciosus'' spends the night on the tips of branches. Identification ''U. graciosus'' is distinguishable from its close relative ...

Schmidt, had been prominent in the then-new field of wildlife management. Karl Schmidt married Margaret Wightman in 1919, and they had two sons, John and Robert. Education In 1913, Schmidt entered Cornell University to study biology and geology. Charles Henry Tyler Townsend
Charles Henry Tyler Townsend (5 December 1863 – 17 March 1944) was an American entomologist specializing in the study of tachinids (Tachinidae), a large and diverse family of flies (Diptera) with larvae that are parasitoids of other insects. He was perhaps the most prolific publisher of new tachinids, naming and describing some 3000 species and genera. He made important contributions to the biological control of insect pests and he was the first to identify the insect vector of a debilitating disease in Peru. Townsend was also a controversial figure and criticism of his approach to insect taxonomy continues to this day. Biography Townsend was born in Oberlin, Ohio, in 1863. He attended high school in Constantine, Michigan and graduated in 1882. From 1887 to 1891 he studied medicine at Columbian University (now George Washington University) in Washington, D.C. At the same time he worked in the United States Department of Agriculture as an assistant entomologist for Charles V. Ril ...
