Urban Rail In The United Kingdom
Urban or suburban rail plays a key role in public transport in many of the United Kingdom's major cities. Urban rail refers to the train service between city centres and suburbs or nearby towns that acts as a main mode of transport for travellers on a daily basis. Advantages over light rail Unlike most light rail systems, most urban rail networks are part of National Rail, which often allows easy interchange with mainline rail, and only one ticket needs to be bought if a journey includes both mainline and urban rail. Bicycles can be taken on board in the majority of cases, and existing railways can be used, rather than new light railways being built. Urban rail usually has higher capacity than light rail because of longer trains (but often lower frequency), and higher average speed because of fewer stops. In some cases, suburban railway networks have their own ticketing system, as in West Yorkshire. Services A few urban railways offer service during peak times only, and othe ...

List Of Railway Stations In The West Midlands
This is a list of railway stations within the West Midlands, a metropolitan county in central England which includes the cities of Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton. It includes all railway stations in the West Midlands that currently have regular timetabled train services, as well as certain stations outside the county which are within the area supported by Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), formerly known as Centro. Transport within the West Midlands is subsidised by TfWM, who since 2006 have used the brand name Network West Midlands to demonstrate the 'joined-up' nature of the regions bus and rail networks. The West Midlands rail network is divided into five zones, centred on Birmingham city centre. This is mainly for the purpose of defining season ticket boundaries. For example, a ticket valid in zones 1 and 2 can be used for travel between any station in those zones, but cannot be used to travel to zone 3 or beyond. The outside boundary is formed by the railway stat ...

West Midlands Trains
West Midlands Trains (WMT) is a train operating company in the United Kingdom. It operates passenger trains on the West Midlands franchise between London and the English Midlands under two trade names: West Midlands Railway (WMR) (within the West Midlands region) and London Northwestern Railway (LNR) (outside the region). West Midlands Trains was created as a consortium of three companies, Abellio, JR East, and Mitsui & Co., which joined to bid for the West Midlands franchise; they were amongst the three bids to be shortlisted in April 2016, and were awarded the franchise during August 2017. In addition to the DfT, it is also accountable to the West Midlands Rail Executive for services that operate wholly within the West Midlands region. On 10 December 2017, West Midlands Trains took over operations from the prior operator, London Midland. As per the original terms of the franchise, West Midlands Trains is expected to continue to operate it until March 2026. During October ...
