Upper Ganga Canal
The Ganges Canal or Ganga Canal is a canal system that irrigates the Doab region between the Ganges River and the Yamuna River in India. The canal is primarily an irrigation canal, although parts of it were also used for navigation, primarily for its construction materials. Separate navigation channels with lock gates were provided on this system for boats to negotiate falls. Originally constructed from 1842 to 1854, for an original head discharge of 6000 ft³/s, the Upper Ganges Canal has since been enlarged gradually for the present head discharge of 10,500 ft³/s (295 m³/s). The system consists of main canal of 272 miles and about 4000 miles long distribution channels. The canal system irrigates nearly 9,000 km² of fertile agricultural land in ten districts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Sengar River
Sengar River is a tributary of the river Yamuna in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Course Sengar originates near Adhawan lake in Aligarh district and drains athras District Etawah, Mainpuri and Kanpur districts before it confluences with the Yamuna between Kalpi and Hamirpur. It has a total length of 304 km (190 miles). The Sengar flows parallel to the Yamuna in Etawah district and is joined by the Sirsa river near Amritpur. It forms a doab with the Rind in Kanpur district. Much of the Sengar's basin in Etawah and Kanpur districts is under red loamy soil. A barrage is a type of low-head, diversion dam which consists of a number of large gates that can be opened or closed to control the amount of water passing through. This allows the structure to regulate and stabilize river water elevation upstream for use in irrigation and other systems. Harduaganj is a town and a ''nagar panchayat'' in Aligarh district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. This town is believed to be founded by Balram Dauji (elder brother of Krishna). An ancient temple dedicated to Dauji is located in this town.
