Upon A Winter's Night
''Upon a Winter's Night'' is the sixth solo album and first Christmas album by folk artist Cara Dillon. The album, produced by Dillon's musical partner and husband Sam Lakeman, features eight arrangements of traditional carols and three original compositions. The titular track “Upon a Winter's Night” was written by Sam Lakeman and the couple's son, Noah, while “Standing by My Christmas Tree” and “Mother Mary” were written by Dillon and Lakeman. The track “O Holy Night” is an a cappella duet featuring Dillon's sister Mary Dillon, who is also a folk singer. Folk music is a music genre that includes traditional folk music and the contemporary genre that evolved from the former during the 20th-century folk revival. ''A Thousands Hearts'' is the fifth solo album by Irish folk singer Cara Dillon. It was the second release on her own label Charcoal Records and was released in partnership with Sony Music. ''Wanderer'' is the seventh studio album by Irish folk singer Cara Dillon. It was released on 13 October 2017 on Charcoal Records. Background Dillon announced the album on her website and social media on 13 September 2017 by revealing the title and artwork. In an interview with the Belfast Live, she explained that she had not planned to release an album in 2017, but a period of spontaneous recording in the summer resulted in an album taking shape. The album was recorded at Random Sound and Cooper Hall, Somerset, and predominantly features piano and acoustic guitar accompaniment by Sam Lakeman, with guest musical contributions by Justin Adams, Kris Drever, Niall Murphy, Ben Nicholls and John Smith. Cara Dillon
Cara Elizabeth Dillon (born 21 July 1975, in Dungiven, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland) is a Northern Irish folk singer. In 1995, she joined the folk supergroup Equation and signed a record deal with Warners Music Group. After leaving the group, she collaborated with Sam Lakeman under the name Polar Star. In 2001, she released her first solo album, ''Cara Dillon'', which featured traditional songs and two original Dillon/Lakeman compositions. The album was an unexpected hit in the folk world, with Dillon receiving four nominations at the 2002 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Dillon's second album, '' Sweet Liberty'' (2003), entered the Irish album charts and UK Indie album charts. In 2004, Dillon received the Meteor Irish Music Award for Best Irish Female. Sam Lakeman
Samuel Charles Lakeman (born 6 November 1975) is an English musician, songwriter, and producer and co-owner of Charcoal Records. Lakeman was brought up in the village of Buckland Monachorum, near Yelverton, Devon, United Kingdom, with his brothers, fellow musicians Seth Lakeman and Sean Lakeman. He currently lives in Frome, Somerset, UK, with his wife, the award-winning Irish singer Cara Dillon, and their three children. Career Sam began playing music with his parents and two brothers Seth and Sean at an early age. As a family band they started playing at festivals, and small concerts. Mary Dillon (singer)
Mary Dillon (born 1964) is an Irish folk singer from Northern Ireland, known for her work with the traditional band Déanta. She launched her solo career in 2010 with the release of an EP entitled ''Army Dreamers''. She is the sister of singer Cara Dillon. Early life Mary Dillon was born in Dungiven, where she still lives with her two children, a son and a daughter. She was raised in a musical household and one of her five siblings is fellow folk singer Cara Dillon. She has never pursued singing as a full-time career and currently works as an English teacher at St Cecilia's College in Derry. Music career Mary Dillon started singing at an early age and by her mid-teens, she had twice won the All Ireland Singing Competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.
