Unlearn (Youngblood Brass Band Album)
The Youngblood Brass Band is an American brass band from Madison, Wisconsin that was established in 1998. The band has released six albums and has toured throughout the United States and Europe. History The band came together in 1995 as the One Lard Biskit Brass Band, subsequently releasing the album ''Better Recognize'' locally. The Youngblood name dates from 1998, the year the group put out their first album, ''Word On The Street''. In 2000 Youngblood released ''Unlearn'', which featured appearances by Talib Kweli, Mike Ladd, DJ Skooly and Ike Willis. ''Unlearn'', which like ''Word On The Street'' was released independently, garnered the band significant attention and led to them being signed to Ozone Music NYC. The band's first album for Ozone, called ''center:level:roar'', came out in 2003. In 2004, sousaphonist and primary arranger Nat McIntosh left the group. Madison is the county seat of Dane County and the capital city of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Sousaphone
The sousaphone ( ) is a brass instrument in the tuba family. Created around 1893 by J. W. Pepper at the direction of American bandleader John Philip Sousa (after whom the instrument was then named), it was designed to be easier to play than the concert tuba while standing or marching, as well as to carry the sound of the instrument above the heads of the band. Like the tuba, sound is produced by moving air past the lips, causing them to vibrate or "buzz" into a large cupped mouthpiece. Unlike the tuba, the instrument is bent in a circle to fit around the body of the musician; it ends in a large, flaring bell that is pointed forward, projecting the sound ahead of the player. Trombone
The trombone (german: Posaune, Italian, French: ''trombone'') is a musical instrument in the Brass instrument, brass family. As with all brass instruments, sound is produced when the player's vibrating lips cause the Standing wave, air column inside the instrument to vibrate. Nearly all trombones use a telescoping slide mechanism to alter the Pitch (music), pitch instead of the brass instrument valve, valves used by other brass instruments. Experimental rock, also called avant-rock, is a subgenre of rock music that pushes the boundaries of common composition and performance technique or which experiments with the basic elements of the genre. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime.
