The Autonomous University of Aguascalientes (in es, Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes, UAA) is a Mexican public university based in the city of Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, Mexico. The Autonomous University of Aguascalientes has several campuses that are located across the state. The university was founded on June 19, 1973, its preceding institution, The School of Agriculture (in es, Escuela de Agricultura), was founded on January 15, 1867. The Autonomous University of Aguascalientes currently offers 64 different bachelor's degrees, 15 master's degrees and 9 doctoral degrees. Its library is named after poet and university president Desiderio Macías Silva, and holds over 183,063 volumes. The UAA also operates a radio station, XHUAA-FM 94.5, and a television station (UAA TV) available on cable providers in the city. Canal 26 (call sign XHCGA-TDT) is a television station in Aguascalientes City, Mexico. It was established on , with the support of the Instituto Cultural de Aguascalientes. It is part of Radio y Televisión de Aguascalientes, the public television and radio broadcaster for the state. History Aguascalientes first began operating a state-run television service on October 12, 1976; te first broadcast aired was on November 17 of that year. Desiderio Macías Silva
Desiderio Macías Silva (March 31, 1922 – February 1995) was a Mexican poet and medical doctor born in Asientos, Aguascalientes. He served as president of the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes. Biography and career After a rural childhood in semi-deserted landscapes, Macías Silva went to study to the Conciliar Seminar of Aguascalientes. Afterwards he moved to Mexico City, where he studied Medicine at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, known as UNAM. Here he joined the cultural association Netzahualcoyotl, where he published poetry in the journal ''Espiral'', among many others. The Mexican Consortium of Universities (Spanish: ''Consorcio de Universidades Mexicanas'', CUMEX) is a selective group of Mexican public higher education institutions, recognized by their higher quality standards.
