United States National Amateur Boxing Featherweight Champions
Below is a list of National Amateur Boxing Featherweight Champions, also known as United States Amateur Champions, along with the state or region which they represented. The weight class was contested at 125 pounds between 1889 and 1921. It was then contested at 126 pounds between 1922 and 1951, before returning to 125 pounds in 1952; which it is currently contested at. The United States National Boxing Championships bestow the title of United States Amateur Champion on amateur boxers for winning the annual national amateur boxing tournament organized by USA Boxing, the national governing body for Olympic boxing and is the United States' member organization of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA). Amateur Boxing
Amateur boxing is a variant of boxing practiced at the collegiate level, at the Olympic Games, Pan American Games and Commonwealth Games, as well as many associations. Amateur boxing bouts are short in duration, comprising three rounds of three minutes in men, and four rounds of two minutes in women, each with a one-minute interval between rounds. Men's senior bouts changed in format from four two-minute rounds to three three-minute rounds on January 1, 2009. This type of competition prizes point-scoring blows, based on number of clean punches landed, rather than physical power. Also, this short format allows tournaments to feature several bouts over several days, unlike professional boxing, where fighters rest several months between bouts. A referee monitors the fight to ensure that competitors use only legal blows (a belt worn over the torso represents the lower limit of punches – any boxer repeatedly landing "low blows" is disqualified). Harold "Harry" George Devine (May 18, 1909 – April 29, 1998) was an American boxer who competed in the 1928 Summer Olympics. Christopher Battaglia (February 18, 1908 – July 25, 1977) better known as Battling Battalino, was an American World Featherweight boxing champion. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Battalino engaged in 88 bouts during his career, of which he won 57 (23 knockouts), lost 26, and drew 3. He was managed by Hy Malley and Lenny Marello. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2003. Terry Parker (boxer)
Terry Parker (born 1949) is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s, and later an administrator. Terry Parker played for the Balmain Tigers for five seasons between 1969 and 1973. In his debut year, Parker won a premiership with the victorious Balmain Tigers team that defeated the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the 1969 Grand Final.
