The United States men's national floorball team is the men's national floorball team of United States, the United States, and a member of the International Floorball Federation (IFF). The American men's team is currently ranked 16th in the world at floorball following their result at the 2018 Men's World Floorball Championships. Floorball
Floorball is a type of floor hockey with five players and a goalkeeper in each team. Men and women play indoors with sticks and a plastic ball with holes. Matches are played in three twenty-minute periods. The sport of bandy also played a role in the game's development. The game was invented in Sweden in the late 1960s. The basic rules were established in 1979 when the first floorball club in the world, Sala IBK, from Sala, was founded in Sweden. Official rules for matches were first written down in 1981. The sport is organized internationally by the International Floorball Federation (IFF). As of 2019, there were about 377,000 registered floorball players worldwide, up from around 300,000 in 2014. The International Floorball Federation (IFF) is the worldwide governing body for the sport of floorball. It was founded on 12 April 1986 in Huskvarna, Sweden, by representatives from the national floorball associations of Finland, Sweden and Switzerland. It is recognized by the IOC and is an ordinary member of the Association of IOC Recognised International Sports Federations, ARISF. 2018 Men's World Floorball Championships
The 2018 Men's World Floorball Championships were the 12th World Championships in men's floorball. The tournament took place in Prague, Czech Republic, from 1 to 9 December 2018. WFC 2018 Qualification 33 teams have registered for the 12th IFF Men’s World Floorball Championships, only 16 of them to reach the final group consisted of 16 teams. Host country, Czech Republic, qualifies automatically. In Europe, there were four qualification groups with three event locations – Tallinn (Estonia), Nitra (Slovakia) and Valmiera (Latvia). The Asia-Oceania group tournament took place in Jeju Island, South Korea. It was the first IFF event hosted by Korea. USA and Canada played their qualification in Toronto, Canada. The United States Floorball Association (USFbA) is the highest governing body for floorball in the United States of America. The USFbA is a self-governed organization, recognized by both state and federal governments. It is based in Incline Village, NV. Organization The USFbA is divided into 14 regional branches. Each regional branch has a director who is in charge of floorball for that region. The USFbA has been a member of the International Floorball Federation (IFF) since 1993. As of June 30, 2008, there are 920 registered floorball players in the US, which is one-and-a-half times the total of registered players in 2007. The North American Floorball League (NAFL) is a semi professional floorball league in North America, consisting of five teams across the United States. The league was founded in June 2020, and began play in the summer of 2022. The NAFL is the first elite level floorball league in North America, taking place in what is typically the offseason of most upper tier floorball leagues worldwide so as to draw the best possible talent without conflicting with club schedules.
