The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) is the National Olympic Committee and the National Paralympic Committee for the United States. It was founded in 1895 as the United States Olympic Committee, and is headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Freestyle Skiing At The 1994 Winter Olympics
The freestyle skiing competition of the 1994 Winter Olympics was held at Kanthaugen Freestyle Arena. There were four events, taking place between 15 and 24 February 1994. The freestyle program was expanded at this Olympics, with aerials, previously a demonstration event, added as a full medal event. Medal summary Medal table Canada led the medal table with one medal of each type. Five countries, Canada, Switzerland, Sweden and Uzbekistan, won their first Olympic freestyle medals. The gold medal won by Lina Cheryazova in the women's aerials was the first Olympic medal for Uzbekistan, and as of 2010, the only one won by that country at the Winter Games. Bonnie Blair
Bonnie Kathleen Blair (born March 18, 1964) is a retired American speed skater. She is one of the top skaters of her era, and one of the most decorated athletes in Olympic history. Blair competed for the United States in four Olympics, winning five gold medals and one bronze medal. Blair made her Olympic debut in Sarajevo in 1984 where she finished eighth in the 500 meters. At the time, Blair trained in both short-track and long-track speed skating. She won the 1986 short-track world championship. Blair returned to the Olympics in 1988 competing in long-track at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. There she won her first Olympic gold medal in the 500 meters and a bronze medal in the 1,000 meter. Nikki Ziegelmeyer
Nicole "Nikki" Ziegelmeyer (born September 24, 1975) is an American short track speed skater who competed in the 1992 Winter Olympics and 1994 Winter Olympics. She was born in Imperial, Missouri and she graduated from Windsor Senior High in 1993 ,becoming a Hall of Fame inductee in 2006. She was a member of the American relay team at the 1992 Olympics in Albertville, France, which won the silver medal in the 3000 metre relay competition. Two years later she won the bronze medal with the American team in the 3000 metre relay event. Ziegelmeyer planned to compete for the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan but suffered a severe break to her back when she fell to the ice and skidded into the boards at 35 mph during a training session in Lake Placid, New York in 1997. Cathy Turner
Cathy Ann Turner (born April 10, 1962, in Rochester, New York) is an American short track speed skater, who won gold medals at the 1992 Winter Olympics and 1994 Winter Olympics. Turner was the American short-track champion in 1979, but short-trak speed skating was not then an Olympic discipline, and in 1980 she left skating to pursue a career as a singer. She sang in bands, shows and then began writing her own songs. She became a studio singer and songwriter under the stage name Nikki Newland. Amy Peterson
Amy Peterson (born November 29, 1971) is an American short track speed skater. Peterson competed in five consecutive Olympic games from when short track speed skating was exhibition sport in 1988 to 2002. Peterson qualified for her first Olympic Games in 1988 for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary at age 16. In 1988 short track speed skating was just a demonstration sport and no medals were awarded. Peterson won the 1,000 meters, and 1,500 meters US speed skating titles at the U.S. Olympic Festival in 1989. She also placed third in the 500 meters. Peterson was born in Maplewood, Minnesota. She attended Johnson Senior High School in Saint Paul, Minnesota and graduated in 1990. Her uncle, Gene Sandvig, competed in speed skating in the 1952 and 1956 Olympic Games. Andrew Alexander "Andy" Gabel (born December 23, 1964) is a four-time, short track speedskating U.S. Olympian (1988, 1992, 1994, 1998), and holds a silver medal as a member of the 1994 5000 meter Short Track relay team.Speedskating Hall of Fame. "Speed Skaters Elected to thSpeedskating Hall of Fame." Gabel was also a member of the National Short Track Team for the longest in U.S. Speedskating history in either Long or Short Track. Eric Flaim
Eric Joseph Flaim (born March 9, 1967) is an American former speed skater. He became a world champion in 1988, as well as capturing Olympic silver medals, namely in speed skating at the 1988 Winter Olympics and in short track speed skating at the 1994 Winter Olympics. Biography and Olympic career Flaim was born in Pembroke, Massachusetts. He began skating at the age of five on a small pond next to his home on Fairwood Drive, Pembroke. He soon starting playing youth ice hockey in his hometown at the Hobomock Arena, later joining travel teams always with the encouragement and support of his father Enrico. John Keithan Coyle (born August 18, 1968) is an American short track speedskater who was part of the U.S. silver medal-winning relay team at the 1994 Winter Olympics. He is also an author, speaker and Design Thinking expert. Early life and education Coyle was born in Warren, Michigan and moved to West Bloomfield, Michigan when he was five years old and lived there until college. Coyle completed his primary and secondary school years at Southfield Christian School in Southfield, Michigan. He graduated with a B.
