The U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland is the chief federal law enforcement officer for the State of Maryland. Since October 2021, the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland is Erek Barron. The United States District Court for the District of Maryland has jurisdiction over all cases prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney. United States Attorney
United States attorneys are officials of the U.S. Department of Justice who serve as the chief federal law enforcement officers in each of the 94 U.S. federal judicial districts. Each U.S. attorney serves as the United States' chief federal criminal prosecutor in their judicial district and represents the U.S. federal government in civil litigation in federal and state court within their geographic jurisdiction. U.S. attorneys must be nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate, after which they serve four-year terms. Rod Rosenstein
Rod Jay Rosenstein (; born January 13, 1965) is an American attorney who served as the 37th United States deputy attorney general from April 2017 until May 2019. Prior to his appointment, he served as a United States attorney for the District of Maryland. At the time of his confirmation as deputy attorney general in April 2017, he was the longest-serving U.S. attorney. Rosenstein had also been nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in 2007, but his nomination was never considered by the U.S. Senate. President Donald Trump nominated Rosenstein to serve as Deputy Attorney General on February 1, 2017. Rosenstein was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 25, 2017. George Beall (attorney)
George Beall VIII (August 17, 1937 – January 15, 2017) was a prominent U.S. attorney. While serving as United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, he prosecuted Vice President of the United States Spiro Agnew for bribery. This prosecution ultimately led to Agnew's resignation as Vice President in 1973. Background Beall was born in Frostburg, Maryland, on August 17, 1937, to his parents, future U.S. Senator James Glenn Beall and the former Margaret Schwarzenbach. He was one of three sons, the eldest also being a future U.S. Senator from Maryland, John Glenn Beall Jr. Beall received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University in 1959; and his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, in 1963.
