United Soccer League Of Pennsylvania
The United Soccer League of Pennsylvania is an amateur soccer league that operates in Eastern Pennsylvania, primarily in the greater Philadelphia area. The USL of PA is the premier amateur soccer league in the Philadelphia region and southeastern Pennsylvania. Overview The league currently has 30 teams, spanning four divisions: The Major Division, The Major II Division, the Over 30 Division, and the Women's Major division. The Major II Division is composed mainly of reserve squads of the Major Division Teams. History The United Soccer League of PA, originated from "United Soccer", an organization founded in the mid-1950s to sponsor international soccer games in our area. Eventually a few men from the organization came up with the idea to form a "German League". These men had pledged support from the Philadelphia United German-Hungarians, Phoenix SC, and the Vereinigung Erzgebirge. The National Amateur Cup, also known as the USASA Amateur Cup, is an American soccer competition open to all amateur teams affiliated with the United States Soccer Federation through United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). In 1923, U.S. Soccer established the National Amateur Cup in response to the growing number of teams entering the open National Challenge Cup (now known as the U.S. Open Cup). The 1923 competition was played through the semifinals, however the tournament was never completed due to inclement weather. While the USSF originally managed the competition, that responsibility is now held by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). West Chester United SC
West Chester United SC is an American soccer club based in West Chester, Pennsylvania that currently competes in both the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) and USL League Two. The organization also fields a side in the United Soccer League of Pennsylvania, a fully-amateur state league. History The team was announced on January 18, 2017 as an NPSL expansion team. West Chester is a non-profit youth organization, with over 3,400 boys and girls ages 3 to 18 and approximately 350 adult players. On January 14, 2020 USL League Two announced that West Chester United would join the league for the 2020 season in the Mid Atlantic Division. Since 2017, WCU has had a rivalry with fellow Pennsylvania side Philadelphia Lone Star FC, which also joined the NPSL in 2017. United German-Hungarians is an American social club, founded in 1910, as the Banater Männerchor. Although the club has been home to various auxiliary groups, the primary activities of the club remain soccer and cultural dancing. The first team was started in 1922, playing exhibition games only. The current German Hungarian Cultural Group was founded in 1965. Representation Nomenclature The original name of the organization, the Banater Männerchor, comes from the Hungarian birthplace (Banat) of the founders and many later members. The meaning of the current nomenclature, The United German Hungarians, refers to the fact that Banat Swabians were Germans living in Hungary, and not a union of 'Germans' and 'Hungarians.'
