United Nations Youth Association Of Australia
UN Youth Australia is a national youth-led organisation which seeks to educate and empower young Australians on global issues and foster an understanding of the work of the United Nations, human rights and International relations in young Australians. The organisation is fully operated by volunteers who have left high school and are under the age of 24, over 15,000 young people participate in UN Youth Australia’s programs, activities and events each year. UN Youth Australia is affiliated with, but is not a division of or run by, the United Nations Association of Australia which has a consultative status with ECOSOC as a member of the World Federation of United Nations Associations. UN Youth also works closely with The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on the annual Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations program. Model United Nations
Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. At a MUN conference, students work as the representative of a country, organization, or person, and must solve a problem with other delegates from around the world. MUN teaches participants skills like research, public speaking, debating, and writing, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership. While Model UN is typically used as an extracurricular activity, some schools also offer it as a class. Model UN is meant to engage students, and allow them to develop deeper understanding into current world issues. Delegates conduct research before conferences: they must formulate position papers, and create policy proposals that they will debate with other delegates in their committee. United Nations Youth Associations Network
The United Nations Youth Associations Network (UNYANET) is the international network for United Nations Youth Associations (UNYAs) and United Nations Associations-Youth Sections (UNA-Youth Sections). In August 2011, youth representatives of the national UNYAs from Austria, Finland, Germany, Norway, Romania and Switzerland, as well as representatives of the UNA-Youth Sections from Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey met at the United Nations Office at Vienna to establish UNYANET. Since then, UNYANET held events such as a Media Workshop in November 2011 in Switzerland or the third edition of the Youth Projects and Cooperation Seminar, which took place in Izmir, September 2012. Australian Youth Representative To The United Nations
The Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations is a joint position created by partnership between United Nations Youth Australia, UN Youth Australia and the Government of Australia, Australian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Australia), Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Appointed yearly through a rigorous application process, the Youth Representative holds an extensive nationwide consultation, meeting with young Australian's, politicians and leaders. Each year the Youth Representative travels to the United Nations General Assembly, United Nation's General Assembly in New York City, New York as an accredited member of the Australian Mission to the UN to deliver a statement on behalf of the young people of Australia. Pākehā
Pākehā (or Pakeha; ; ) is a Māori term for New Zealanders primarily of European descent. Pākehā is not a legal concept and has no definition under New Zealand law. The term can apply to fair-skinned persons, or to any non-Māori New Zealander. Papa'a has a similar meaning in Cook Islands Māori. Historically before the arrival of other ethnic groups the word Māori meant 'ordinary' or 'normal'. The arrival of Europeans led to the formation of a new term to distinguish the self-regarded 'ordinary' or 'normal' Māori from the new arrivals. Māori People
The Māori (, ) are the indigenous Polynesian people of mainland New Zealand (). Māori originated with settlers from East Polynesia, who arrived in New Zealand in several waves of canoe voyages between roughly 1320 and 1350.
