Union's End
Union's End is the most northwesterly point in South Africa and the northernmost point of the Northern Cape as well as of Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality and ZF Mgcawu District Municipality within this province. It is the point where the borders of South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana intersect. Where the Nossob River flowing from the northwest (from Gobabis, Leonardville, and Aranos) crosses the 20° line of longitude (the eastern border of Namibia), the tripoint lies in the middle of the dry riverbed. It is located in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, where beacons indicate the borders with Botswana and South Africa. On the Namibian side of the border are farms, and since 1966, a straight fence has spanned the border. The name of the point dates to the Union of South Africa. A tripoint, trijunction, triple point, or tri-border area is a geographical point at which the boundaries of three countries or subnational entities meet. There are 175 international tripoints as of 2020. Nearly half are situated in rivers, lakes or seas. On dry land, the exact tripoints may be indicated by markers or pillars, and occasionally by larger monuments. Usually, the more neighbours a country has, the more international tripoints that country has. Upington
Upington ( Nama: //Khara hais) is a town founded in 1873 and located in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, on the banks of the Orange River. The town was originally called Olijvenhoutsdrift ('Olive wood drift'), due to the abundance of olive wood trees in the area, but later renamed after Sir Thomas Upington, Attorney-General and then Prime Minister of the Cape. It originated as a mission station established in 1871 and run by Reverend Christiaan Schröder. The mission station now houses the Kalahari Orange Museum. The museum is also the home of a donkey statue, which recognises the enormous contribution that this animal made to the development of the region during the pioneering days of the 19th century. Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is a large wildlife preserve and conservation area in southern Africa. The park straddles the border between South Africa and Botswana and comprises two adjoining national parks: * Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa * Gemsbok National Park in Botswana The total area of the park is . Aranos
Aranos is a town in the Hardap Region of central South east Namibia. The place normally receives an annual average rainfall of , although in the 2010/2011 rainy season were measured. Politics Until 2010 Aranos was governed by a 5-seat village council. Since it was upgraded to "town" status in 2010 there is now a town council that has seven seats. In the 2010 local authority election, SWAPO received the most votes with 546. The Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA) finished in 2nd place with 205 votes, followed by the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP, 186), SWANU (17) and the Congress of Democrats (15). Northern Cape
The Northern Cape is the largest and most sparsely populated province of South Africa. It was created in 1994 when the Cape Province was split up. Its capital is Kimberley. Leonardville, Namibia
Leonardville is a village in Omaheke Region in eastern Namibia. It belongs to the Aminuis electoral constituency.
