Undercurrent ( is, Brim) is a 2010 Icelandic drama film based on a play by the same name and produced by the theatre group Vesturport. The film won the Best Picture award at the 2011 Edda Awards in Iceland. It tells the story of the crew of a fishing boat, one of whom commits suicide. Cast * Ingvar E. Árni Ólafur Ásgeirsson ( – ), also known as Árni Óli, was an Icelandic film director and screenwriter. He graduated from the Łódź Film School in Poland in 2001. Árni Óli's career began with the celebrated short film ''Anna's Day'' (''Annas dag''), which won the International Award at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in 2003. Ólafur Egilsson (actor)
Ólafur Egilsson (1564 – 1 March 1639) was an Icelandic Lutheran minister. In 1627, he was abducted, along with his wife and two sons, by Barbary Pirates under the Ottoman Empire during their raid on Vestmannaeyjar. The raid is known in Icelandic history as '' Tyrkjaránið'' (The Turkish abductions). He returned to Vestmannaeyjar in 1628 but his wife Ásta Þorsteinsdóttir did not return until 1637 and his sons never returned. He later wrote a memoir of his abduction and return, which was published both in Iceland and in Denmark. Gísli Örn Garðarsson (born 15 December 1973) is an Icelandic actor and director. He is one of the founders of Vesturport, a theatre and film company based in Reykjavík, and is also sometimes a scriptwriter and producer. Before focusing on acting, he competed internationally as a gymnast. Early life and education Gísli Örn was born in Reykjavík but grew up in Oslo. His father, Garðar Gíslason, is a teacher; his mother, Kolbrún Högnadóttir, worked for the publisher Fróði. Gísli Örn finished school at Hamrahlið College in Hlíðahverfi and studied Sociology at the University of Iceland and West European Studies at the University of Oslo before completing training in drama at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. Vesturport
Vesturport is an Icelandic theatre group, founded on 18 August 2001. The group has performed plays in the United States, Europe and Australia. In 2011, it received the Europe Prize Theatrical Realities for its complete work, innovative character and originality. Overview On the day that the theatre group was founded, the play ''Discopigs'' was performed in Reykjavík. Over the next three years the group performed the plays ''Key around the neck'', ''Titus'' and ''Mr. Man''. Its first performance outside of Iceland was ''Romeo and Juliet'', on 18 November 2004 in Playhouse Theatre, London. Romeo and Juliet was subsequently shown in Germany, Poland, Norway and Finland.
