The flag of Uganda ( Ugandan Languages: ''Bendera ya Uganda'') was adopted on 9 October 1962, the date that Uganda became independent from the British Empire. Stephen Kissa
Stephen Kissa (born 1 December 1995) is a Ugandan long-distance runner who specializes in the 5000 metres. He finished 52nd at the 2017 World Cross Country Championships and competed at the 2017 World Championships 5000 metres without reaching the final. The next year he finished 8th in the 5000 metres at the 2018 African Championships. His personal best time is 13:10.93 minutes, achieved in July 2018 at Athletissima in Lausanne. He has 7:54.32 minutes in the 3000 metres, achieved in July 2018 in Rabat. He won his last race of 2018 at the 15 kilometres road race Montferland Run in the Netherlands. Stella Chesang
Stella Chesang (born 1 December 1996) is a long-distance runner from Uganda who competed in the Athletics at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Women's 5000 metres event at the 2016 Olympics. In April 2018, she won the gold medal in the 10,000 metres at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, held in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. Background and education Chesang as born on 1 December 1996 in Serere Village, Benet sub-county, Kween District, in the Eastern Region of Uganda, to Juliet Cheptoris and Patrick Kusuro. The women's 5000 metres at the 2022 World Athletics Championships was held at the Hayward Field in Eugene from 20 to 23 July 2022. Summary Everyone in this race had the opportunity to see what Olympic Champion Sifan Hassan does at the end of a race. Some of them had seen it close up. But Hassan could be beaten, she was beaten in the 10,000 metres a few days earlier and world record holder in both events, Letesenbet Gidey was the prime beneficiary. The final took off at a pedestrian pace, Gidey's Ethiopian teammate Dawit Seyaum took the field through a couple of 80 second laps. The third Ethiopian was 1500 silver medalist Gudaf Tsegay. The women's 1500 metres at the 2022 World Athletics Championships was held at the Hayward Field in Eugene from 15 to 18 July 2022. Winnie Nanyondo
Winnie Nanyondo (born 23 August 1993, in Mulago) is a Ugandan middle- and long-distance runner. She has represented her native country in several important international events, including both the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the 2014 World University Cross Country Championships, the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the 2013 Summer Universiade, and the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics. Halimah Nakaayi
Halimah Nakaayi (born 16 October 1994) is a Ugandan middle-distance runner who specialises in the 800 metres. She is the 2019 World Champion at the event and won the bronze medal at the 2022 World Indoor Championships. Nakaayi is the current Ugandan record holder for the 800 m both outdoors and indoors, and also for the 1000 metres. She competed in the 800 m at both the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympics, reaching the semi-finals each time. Fred Musobo (born 12 August 1996) is an Ugandan mountain runner. Career Musobo placed first in the 2015 World Mountain Running Championships. In 2018 Musobo represented Uganda at the World Half Marathon Championships in Valencia, Spain. Fred placed 20th in a time of 1:01:38. Kenya's Geoffrey Kamworor won the race. Fred made his marathon debut in April at the Milano Marathon, where he ran a time of 2:13:50, finishing 4th place. Musobo's next marathon was at the Seoul JoongAn Marathon, where he finished 5th in a time of 2:09:04. In 2019 Musobo ran the International Marathon, Daegu, where he placed 3rd in a new personal best time of 2:06:56.
