Uganda At The 2019 African Games
Uganda competed at the 2019 African Games held from 19 to 31 August 2019 in Rabat, Morocco. Initially 77 athletes were scheduled to represent Uganda. This later rose to 78 athletes. Athletes representing Uganda won two silver medals and eight bronze medals and the country finished in 28th place in the medal table. Flag Of Uganda
The flag of Uganda ( Ugandan Languages: ''Bendera ya Uganda'') was adopted on 9 October 1962, the date that Uganda became independent from the British Empire. It consists of six equal horizontal bands of black (top), yellow, red, black, yellow, and red (bottom); a white disc is superimposed at the centre and depicts the national symbol, a grey crowned crane, facing the hoist's side. During the colonial era the British used a British Blue ensign defaced with the colonial badge, as prescribed in 1865 regulations. Buganda, the largest of the traditional kingdoms in the colony of Uganda, had its own flag. Leni Shida
Shida Leni (born 22 May 1994) is a Ugandan sprinter. Early life Shida was born in Arua in 1994 as the daughter of Abdulatif Tiyua, a retired military officer and former deputy commander the West Nile Bank Front rebel group. Career After Kevin and Sue O'Connor began coaching Shida in August 2013, she represented Uganda at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow reaching the semifinals. This was her first competition outside of Uganda. In February 2018, in Kampala, she ran 52.47 to break the 12-year-old 400m National Record. She has now broken this record on 7 occasions, most recently at the 2019 National Championships (51.47), where she also broke the 12-year-old 200m National Record with a time of 23.43. Esther Chebet
Esther Chebet (born 10 September 1997) is a Ugandan middle-distance runner. She finished fifth at the 2019 African Games (1500 m). At the 2019 World Cross Country Championships held in Aarhus, Denmark she finished fourteenth in the senior race and won a bronze medal in the team competition. She competed at the 2016 World U20 Championships (800 m), the 2017 World Championships (1500 m) and the 2019 World Championships (1500 m) without reaching the final. Her personal best times are 2:03.1 minutes in the 800 metres, achieved in September 2016 in Eldoret; 4:02.90 minutes in the 1500 metres, achieved in May 2019 in Nanjing; and 4:28.16 minutes in the mile run, achieved in July 2017 in Lausanne. Halimah Nakaayi
Halimah Nakaayi (born 16 October 1994) is a Ugandan middle-distance runner who specialises in the 800 metres. She is the 2019 World Champion at the event and won the bronze medal at the 2022 World Indoor Championships. Nakaayi is the current Ugandan record holder for the 800 m both outdoors and indoors, and also for the 1000 metres. She competed in the 800 m at both the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympics, reaching the semi-finals each time. Career 2011–2017 At 16, Halimah Nakaayi won the 400 metres at the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games held in Douglas, Isle of Man. In 2012, she ran the second 10 km leg of a marathon relay at a festival celebrating 50 years of Ugandan independence. After advancing from fifth to second, she spent four hours in a coma.
