Udny Station
Udny Station ( sco, Widnie Station) is a small village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is 8 miles east of Oldmeldrum and 5 miles south west of Ellon. It is part of the parish of Foveran. Udny Station was a station on the Formartine and Buchan line to Fraserburgh. The tracks were removed in the early 1980s, just as the oil boom was getting into full swing. There was a goods yard with railway sidings at the station. The sidings were in the area where a number of newer houses have been built. Walking along the track of the old platform, one of the original lighting units (minus the glass) is still visible mounted on a concrete post. About a mile south of the station, on the old track, walkers pass old level crossing gates which are still fitted showing the orange round plate. On the eastern edge of the village, whilst heading for Cultercullen, just as you leave the village is a field with a fenced-off area showing air vents. This was a Royal Observer Corps station. Udny Green (Scottish Gaelic: Olldanaidh; Doric: Widnie Green) is a village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, immediately southwest of Pitmedden. It is part of the parish of Udny along with another small settlement, Udny Station. Udny Parish Church is located beside the village green with the old kirkyard and Udny Mort House on the opposite side. George Udny Yule FRS (18 February 1871 – 26 June 1951), usually known as Udny Yule, was a British statistician, particularly known for the Yule distribution. Personal life Yule was born at Beech Hill, a house in Morham near Haddington, Scotland and died in Cambridge, England. He came from an established Scottish family composed of army officers, civil servants, scholars, and administrators. His father, Sir George Udny Yule (1813–1886) was a brother of the noted orientalist Sir Henry Yule (1820–1889). His great uncle was the botanist John Yule. In 1899, Yule married May Winifred Cummings. Undy
Undy ( cy, Gwndy) is a village in Monmouthshire, south east Wales, adjoining the village of Magor with which it forms the community and parish of Magor with Undy. It is located about west of Caldicot and east of Newport, close to the junction of the M4 and M48 motorways, and adjoins the Caldicot Levels on the north bank of the Bristol Channel. History The area was first settled in Roman times. In 1996 a stone coffin dating from the 3rd or 4th century was found during building work, containing the skeleton of a young woman. The village name is of uncertain origin. Previous spellings include Wondy, as noted by William Camden in 1610. The manor was an early seat of the Seymour family.
