USS Pybus (CVE-34)
USS ''Pybus'' (CVE-34) was initially a United States Navy . The ship was transferred to the United Kingdom for service in the Royal Navy as the HMS ''Emperor'' (D98) as part of the Lend-Lease program of World War II. An arresting gear, or arrestor gear, is a mechanical system used to rapidly decelerate an aircraft as it lands. Arresting gear on aircraft carriers is an essential component of naval aviation, and it is most commonly used on CATOBAR and STOBAR aircraft carriers. The draft or draught of a ship's hull is the vertical distance between the waterline and the bottom of the hull (keel). The draught of the vessel is the maximum depth of any part of the vessel, including appendages such as rudders, propellers and drop keels if deployed.
