USLHT Canlaon
USLHT ''Canlaon'' was lighthouse tender that served in the Philippines. History On 23 June 1930, she was ordered by the government of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from the German shipbuilder Schichau-Werke, the first of three cutters ordered from Schichau-Werke to serve with the Bureau of Customs as inspection and enforcement ships (the other two ships were her sister ship '' Banahao'' and the 903-GRT ''Arayat''). She was laid down at Schichau's Danzig shipyard, launched on 29 November 1930, completed in February 1931, and delivered on 25 February 1931. ''Canlaon'' was later converted to a lighthouse tender. In 1936, she assisted in the salvage of the survey vessel USC&GS ''Fathomer''. During the Japanese invasion the Philippines, she returned to her home port of Manila where the Asiatic Fleet had retreated. A ''Kōkūtai'' () was a term used by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service (IJNAS) to designate a military aviation unit, similar to the Air Groups in other air arms and services of the time. (''Group'' in the British Royal Air Force, ''Gruppe'' in the German Luftwaffe, ''Groupe'' in the French Armée de l'Air etc.) A Kōkūtai could be based at land or on board aircraft carriers and could contain up to hundreds of men and aircraft. The United States Asiatic Fleet was a fleet of the United States Navy during much of the first half of the 20th century. Before World War II, the fleet patrolled the Philippine Islands. Much of the fleet was destroyed by the Japanese by February 1942, after which it was dissolved, and the remnants incorporated into the naval component of the South West Pacific Area (command), South West Pacific Area command, which eventually became the United States Seventh Fleet, Seventh Fleet. USC&GS Fathomer (1904)
The second USC&GS ''Fathomer'' was a steamer that served as a survey ship in the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey from 1905 to 1942. Construction and acquisition ''Fathomer'' was built by the Hong Kong and Whampoa Dock Company at Hong Kong in 1904 under the supervision of C. C. Yates for the Survey. On 10 December 1904 she underwent trials in Hong Kong witnessed by a special board composed of C&GS personnel and others acting for the Coast and Geodetic Survey, passing her speed trial at 10.5 knots—0.5 knots more than required. The board recommended acceptance after certain changes and additions by the contractor. Kanlaon
Kanlaon, also known as Mount Kanlaon and Kanlaon Volcano ( hil, Bolkang Kanglaon; ceb, Bolkang Kanglaon; fil, Bulkang Kanlaon), is an active stratovolcano and the highest mountain on the island of Negros in the Philippines, as well as the highest point in the Visayas, with an elevation of above sea level.
