USA Cycling National Racing Calendar
The USA Cycling National Racing Calendar (NRC) is an annual competition of road bicycle racing events held in the United States and sponsored by USA Cycling. The NRC includes a men's and women's individual and team rankings based on points awarded at the events. The competition is open to amateur and professional riders regardless of national origin. Events In 2011, the NRC had 30 events: 8 stage races, 15 crits, 2 one-day road races, and 5 omniums. In 2012, the NRC has 29 events, and a total prize purse of more than one million dollars. Road Bicycle Racing
Road bicycle racing is the cycle sport discipline of road cycling, held primarily on Road surface, paved roads. Road racing is the most popular professional sport, professional form of bicycle racing, in terms of numbers of competitors, events and spectators. The two most common competition formats are mass start events, where riders start simultaneously (though sometimes with a Handicapping, handicap) and race to a set finish point; and time trials, where individual time trial, individual riders or team time trial, teams race a course alone against the clock. Stage races or "tours" take multiple days, and consist of several mass-start or time-trial stages ridden consecutively. Professional racing originated in Western Europe, centred in France, Spain, Italy and the Low Countries. Catherine Cheatley
Catherine Cheatley (née Sell; born 6 April 1983 in Whanganui) is a retired New Zealand professional road and track cyclist. She won two New Zealand championship titles in both road race and individual track pursuit, and later represented her nation New Zealand at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Before her official retirement in June 2012 because of sustained bike crash-related injuries, Cheatley moved to the United States to race for the Cheerwine and pro cycling teams in the women's elite professional events on the UCI Women's World Cup, and UCI World Championships, where she earned the bronze medal for the women's points race in 2007. Colavita is an Italian company best known for its olive oil. As of 2010, the brothers Enrico and Leonardo Colavita run the company, with Enrico serving as President and Leonardo as General Manager, and other members of the family serving in other management roles, including Leonardo's son Giovanni, who was President of Colavita USA. Lyne Bessette
Lyne Bessette (born 10 March 1975, Lac Brome, Quebec) is a politician and retired professional bicycle racer from Quebec, Canada. She was elected to represent the riding of Brome—Missisquoi in the 2019 federal election as a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. Bessette was a member of the Canadian Olympic team in 2000 and 2004. She won the Tour de l'Aude Feminin in 1999 and 2001 and the Women's Challenge in 2001. Laura Van Gilder (born December 11, 1964) is an American road bicycle racer from Cresco, Pennsylvania, who currently rides for American amateur team Mellow Mushroom Racing. Tina Mayolo Pic (born May 9, 1966) is an American bicycle racer. She is a 6-time United States National Criterium Championships winner (2002–2005, 2007, 2009) and a 4-time USA Cycling National Racing Calendar points champion (2000, 2004–2006). Career Pic graduated from the University of Virginia with degrees in Finance and Marketing. She subsequently enrolled in a pre-medical programme at the University of Georgia, where she switched sports from triathlon and duathlon to cycling, winning the Collegiate National Championship in 1995 and turning professional the following year. Pic announced her retirement at the end of 2009 season, remaining with the Colavita team for 2010 as a director alongside team-mate Rachel Heal, replacing Iona Wynter.
