The UC Riverside Highlanders women's basketball team represents the University of California, Riverside in Riverside, California, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Big West Conference. They play their home games at the Student Recreation Center Arena. History The Highlanders have appeared in the NCAA Tournament three times since joining Division I, making it in 2006, 2007, and 2010 after winning the Big West title. They have also made the WNIT in 2009, 2011, and 2016. The 1993 NCAA Division II women's basketball tournament was the 12th annual tournament hosted by the NCAA to determine the national champion of Division II women's collegiate basketball in the United States. In a rematch of the previous year's final, North Dakota State defeated defending champions Delta State in the championship game, 95–63, to claim the Bison's second NCAA Division II national title. Utah State Aggies Women's Basketball
The Utah State Aggies are a Division I women's college basketball team that plays in the Mountain West Conference, representing Utah State University. They play their home games at the Smith Spectrum. History The Aggies started play in 1972. They made the AIAW First Round in their first three years and the regionals in 1982, but they won only 18 games in the last five years of the program's first run in basketball. The women's team was shuttered from 1988 to 2002. 1973 AIAW National Division I Basketball Championship
The 1973 AIAW women's basketball tournament was held on March 22–25, 1973. The host site was Queens College in Flushing, New York. Sixteen teams participated, and Immaculata University was crowned national champion at the conclusion of the tournament, for the second straight year. Immaculata finished the season undefeated (20–0), becoming the first undefeated national champion in women's college basketball. AIAW National Division I Basketball Tournament
The Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) was founded in 1971 to govern collegiate women's athletics in the United States and to administer national championships (see AIAW Champions). It evolved out of the Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (founded in 1967). The association was one of the biggest advancements for women's athletics on the collegiate level. Throughout the 1970s, the AIAW grew rapidly in membership and influence, in parallel with the national growth of women's sports following the enactment of Title IX. The Chico State Wildcats (also CSU Chico Wildcats and Cal State Chico Wildcats) are the athletic teams that represent California State University, Chico, located in Chico, California, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The NCAA Division II women's basketball tournament (officially styled as "Championship" instead of "Tournament") is an annual tournament to determine the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II women's college basketball national champion. Basketball was one of 12 women's sports added to the NCAA championship program for the 1981–82 school year, as the NCAA and Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) sought for sole governance of women's collegiate athletics. The AIAW continued to conduct its established championships; however, after a year of dual women's championships at the national level, the AIAW disbanded. The 2020 Elite Eight was due to be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, AL before the NCAA called off the tournament due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
