The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos men's basketball team is the basketball team that represents University of California, Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, California, United States. The school's team competes in the Big West Conference. The current head coach is Joe Pasternack. The Gauchos have appeared seven times in the NCAA tournament, most recently in 2023. The Blue–Green Rivalry The main rival of the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos men's basketball team is the Cal Poly Mustangs men's basketball team. The rivalry is a part of the larger Blue–Green Rivalry, which encompasses all sports from the two schools. Big West Conference
The Big West Conference (BWC) is an American collegiate List of NCAA conferences, athletic conference whose member institutions participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's NCAA Division I, Division I. The conference was originally formed on July 1, 1969, as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association (PCAA), and in 1988 was renamed the Big West Conference. The conference stopped sponsoring college football after the 2000 season. Among the conference's 11 member institutions, 10 are located in California (nine in Southern California alone), and one is located in Hawaii (though the Hawaii member is leaving for the Mountain West Conference, effective July 1, 2026). All of the current schools are public universities, with the California schools evenly split between the California State University and the University of California systems. Bob Williams (basketball, Born 1953)
Robert Allen Williams (born July 13, 1953) is an American college basketball coach and the former head men's basketball coach at the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos men's basketball, UC Santa Barbara. He is sometimes referred to as the Dean of the Big West Conference's basketball coaches. He was previously the head coach at the UC Davis Aggies men's basketball, UC Davis, winning the NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament, NCAA Men's Division II Basketball Championship in 1998. Williams is the all-time winningest coach at UC Santa Barbara with a 19-year record of 313–260. Coaching career Prior to his arrival at UCSB, Williams spent eight years at UC Davis. His UC Davis teams recorded 20 or more wins five times and had an eight-year record of 158–76 record. 2015 CBI
The 2015 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) was a single-elimination tournament of 16 NCAA Division I teams that did not participate in the 2015 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, NCAA tournament or the 2015 National Invitation Tournament, NIT. The opening games and the quarterfinals were held in mid-March on the home courts of participating teams. After the quarterfinals, the bracket were reseeded. A best-of-three championship series between the two finalist teams was held, with 2014–15 Loyola Ramblers men's basketball team, Loyola-Chicago winning the title with a two-game sweep. One change from this year's CBI Tournament was the use of a 30-second shot clock (instead of a 35-second clock).
