The UCI Road World Championships are the annual world championships for bicycle road racing organized by the (UCI). The UCI Road World Championships consist of events for road race and individual time trial, and a mixed team relay. Events All the world championship events are ridden by national teams, not trade teams such as in most other major races. The winner of each category is entitled to wear the rainbow jersey in races of that category (either mass start or time trial) until the next championships. Road bicycle racing is the cycle sport discipline of road cycling, held primarily on Road surface, paved roads. Road racing is the most popular professional sport, professional form of bicycle racing, in terms of numbers of competitors, events and spectators. The two most common competition formats are mass start events, where riders start simultaneously (though sometimes with a Handicapping, handicap) and race to a set finish point; and time trials, where individual time trial, individual riders or team time trial, teams race a course alone against the clock. Stage races or "tours" take multiple days, and consist of several mass-start or time-trial stages ridden consecutively. The ''Union Cycliste Internationale'' (UCI; ; en, International Cycling Union) is the world governing body for sports cycling and oversees international competitive cycling events. 2022 UCI Road World Championships
The 2022 UCI Road World Championships will be held from 18 to 25 September 2022 in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. In February 2022 the UCI announced that a Women's U23 category will be added to the road and time trial race. The title will be awarded from within the elite women’s event and a separate race will be added from 2025 UCI Road World Championships, 2025. On March 1 AusCycling announced that Russian and Belarusian teams will not be allowed to compete based on International Olympic Committee's recommendation on 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Routes In March 2022, the routes for the championships were announced. The Elite Road races start in Helensburgh, New South Wales, Helensburgh, about 30km north of Wollongong before a 34km loop around Mount Keira (climb length of 8.7km, average gradient of 5%, maximum incline of 15%). Niamh Fisher-Black (born 12 August 2000) is a New Zealand professional racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . She is the older sister of fellow racing cyclist Finn Fisher-Black, and was educated at Nelson College for Girls. Pfeiffer Zara Georgi (born 27 September 2000) is an English professional racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . She won the 2021 British National Road Race Championships. In 2017 she won the Gent–Wevelgem junior race and came second overall in the EPZ Omloop van Borsele. In 2018, she won the junior races Trofeo Da Moreno (junior race of Trofeo Alfredo Binda), Healthy Ageing Tour, and Watersley Ladies Challenge.
