UCI Road World Championships – Men's Team Time Trial
The UCI Road World Championships – Men's team time trial was a world championship for road bicycle racing in the discipline of team time trial (TTT). It is organized by the world governing body, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). National teams (1962–1994) A championship for national teams was introduced in 1962 UCI Road World Championships, 1962 and held until 1994. It was held annually, except that from 1972 onward, the TTT was not held in Summer Olympic Games, Olympic years. There were 4 riders per team on a route around 100 kilometres long. Team Time Trial
A team time trial (TTT) is a road bicycle race in which teams of cyclists race against the clock (see individual time trial for a more detailed description of ITT events). The winning team in a TTT is determined by the comparing the times of (usually) the fourth-finishing rider in each team (though the relevant finish position can be otherwise specified in advance by the race organisers). This means that each team will try to get their first four (at least) riders across the finish line in a tight group: it is actually a disadvantage for any rider to finish far in advance of the fourth rider, as by staying back a faster rider can help the fourth rider to get a quicker time. Where a TTT is part of a stage race, it is necessary for each rider to be given a finish time that can be cumulated into the general classification timings. Anatoly Vladimirovich Olizarenko (russian: Анатолий Владимирович Олизаренко; 25 September 1936 – 30 January 1984) was a Soviet cyclist. He competed in the individual road race and the team time trial at the 1964 Summer Olympics and finished in 56th and 5th place, respectively. Olizarenko won the Tour d'Egypte in 1958. Yury Afanasyevich Melikhov (russian: Юрий Афанасьевич Мелихов; 1 April 1937 – February 2000) was a Russian cyclist. He competed in the road race and 100 km team time trial at the 1960 and 1964 Summer Olympics. In 1960 he finished in fourth place on the road and won a bronze medal in the time trial. Gainan Rakhmatovich Saidkhuzhin (russian: Гайнан Рахматович Сайдхужин; 30 June 1937 – 13 May 2015) was a Russian Tatar cyclist and ten-time cycling champion of the Soviet Union. He competed in the road race at the 1960 and 1964 Summer Olympics and finished in 34th and 41st places, respectively. In 1964 he also finished fifth in the 100 km team time trial. Viktor Arsenevich Kapitonov (russian: Виктор Арсеньевич Капитонов, 25 October 1933 – 5 March 2005) was a Soviet road cyclist who competed at the 1956 and 1960 Summer Olympics. In 1956 he finished 32nd individually and 6th with the Soviet team. In 1960 he won the individual road race and finished third in the 100 km team time trial. His gold medal was the first for Soviet cyclists. At the end of the race Kapitonov mistakenly sprinted for the finish with one lap to go, surprising his main rival Livio Trapè. Georges Chappe (born 5 March 1944) is a retired cyclist from France, who was nicknamed ''Jojo'' during his professional career. He was a professional from 1965 to 1975.
