UCI Road World Championships – Junior Men's Road Race
UCI Road World Championships – Men's junior road race is the annual UCI Road World Championships, world championship race for road bicycle racing for men in the Junior category. It is organised by the world governing body, the Union Cycliste Internationale. In the period 2005–2009 this event was part of the UCI Juniors World Championships, then the UCI Juniors Road World Championships in 2010. In 2020 no junior race was held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The winner of the event is entitled to wear the rainbow jersey in Junior competitions for one year. The UCI Road World Championships consist of events for road race and individual time trial, and a mixed team relay. Events All the world championship events are ridden by national teams, not trade teams such as in most other major races. Søren Lilholt (born 22 September 1965) is a Danish former racing cyclist. He rode in eight Grand Tours between 1987 and 1992 completing five of them. He also competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Eric Vanderaerden (born 11 February 1962) is a retired road cyclist from the town of Lummen, Belgium. He was a considerable talent, winning the prologue time trial of the Vuelta a España in his debut year of 1983. During the 1983 Tour de France he also won the prologue and held the yellow jersey for two days. During the 1984 Tour de France he won two stages, including the final stage of the race which finished on the Champs Elysees in Paris. His participation in the 1985 edition was a strong one, beating the eventual Tour winner Bernard Hinault in a time trial stage. He held the yellow jersey again during this tour, this time for three days. The following year, he won the green jersey. In subsequent years, he won two monument races: in 1985, at 23, he won the storm ridden edition of the Tour of Flanders, and in 1987 he won Paris–Roubaix.
