UAAP 3x3 Basketball Championship
The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) holds its two-day 3x3 basketball tournaments on first week of March. It was inaugurated as a demonstration event for seniors' division in UAAP Season 80 in 2018. On the opening press conference of UAAP Season 82 in 2019, the UAAP Board announced that 3x3 basketball would become an official sport as of the said season for both men and women. Format Debut format 3x3 basketball made its debut in UAAP Season 80 using the group stage format. The elimination round would be divided into two groups of three to four teams each. Each team will play the teams in its group once. The top two teams per group qualify for the semifinals. The higher-seed team of a group faces the lower-seeded team of the other group in one-game semifinals match. The semifinals winners advance to the final, which is also a one-game matchup. 3x3 basketball (pronounced ''three-ex-three'') is a variation of basketball played three-a-side, with one backboard and in a half-court setup. According to an ESSEC Business School study commissioned by the International Olympic Committee, 3x3 is the largest urban team sport in the world. This basketball game format is currently being promoted and structured by FIBA, the sport's governing body. Its primary competition is an annual FIBA 3X3 World Tour, comprising a series of Masters and one Final tournament, and awarding six-figure prize money in US dollars. UAAP Basketball Championship
The UAAP Basketball Championship holds its basketball tournaments from September to December. Basketball is a mandatory sport in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). All eight universities participate in the Men's, Women's, and Juniors (Boys') tournaments. The tournament is divided into two divisions, the Seniors' division, which is further subdivided into the Men's tournament, for male collegiate players, and the Women's tournament for female collegiate players. The other division is the Juniors' which is also subdivided into two tournaments for the male and female high school athletes. The UAAP basketball sport has a rich history of schools establishing dynasties. UAAP Season 83
UAAP Season 83 was the planned 2020–21 athletic year of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). This season was to be hosted by the De La Salle University. Eight member universities of the UAAP would compete in the league's sixteen sport disciplines to vie for the general championship. The COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines caused Season 82, which was supposed to end in May 2020, to be cancelled in April 2020. This had to be done to avoid logistical issues in organizing Season 83, which was planned to open in January 2021 but the plan was scrapped in December 2020, taking into account training that is usually held months prior to the opening of a UAAP season and the imposition of general community quarantine measures in Metro Manila.
