U.S. Route 70 In Texas
U.S. Route 70 (US 70) is a U.S. Highway that spans from Globe, Arizona to Atlantic, North Carolina. In Texas, it has a portion that begins at the New Mexico state line in Farwell and ends at the Oklahoma state line northeast of Oklaunion. Route description US 70 enters Texas at Farwell concurrent with US 84, just after US 60 splits off to the northeast in Texico, New Mexico at the state line. The two routes angle southeast to Muleshoe, where they split. Sagerton is an unincorporated community in Haskell County, Texas, United States. History According to the Handbook of Texas, the community was established in 1905 and named for W. M. Sager, the townsite donor. It was a shipping point for locally grown agricultural products such as cotton, cattle, and poultry on the newly constructed . Benjamin, Texas
Benjamin is a city in and the county seat of Knox County, Texas, United States. Its population was 258 at the 2010 census. History The community was founded in 1884 by Hilory G. Bedford, president and controlling stockholder in the Wichita and Brazos Stock Company. He named it Benjamin after his son, who had been killed by lightning. To attract additional settlers, Bedford gave his stockholders a 50-acre tract of land and set aside 40 more acres for a town square. Benjamin was designed as the Knox County seat when it was organized in 1886; a school also opened in that year. A jail built in 1887 still stands as a private residence, and the old bank stands next to the sheriff's office. Benjamin was incorporated in 1928, and the population was 485 in the 1930 census. Two structures in the community, a courthouse (1938) and school building (1942), were constructed with Works Projects Administration labor. Interstate 27 (I-27) is an Interstate Highway, entirely in the US state of Texas, running north from Lubbock to I-40 in Amarillo. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Farwell is a city in and the county seat of Parmer County, Texas, United States. Its population was 1,363 at the 2010 census. The city is located on the Texas-New Mexico border with the city of Texico, New Mexico, across the border. History Farwell began as a cow camp for the XIT Ranch, a huge ranch that was established in 1880. Farwell was named for brothers Charles B. and John V. Farwell of Lake Forest, Illinois, who built the Texas State Capitol building in exchange for 3,050,000 acres of ranchland.
