U.S. Route 412 (US 412) enters the state of Missouri from Arkansas near Cardwell. The highway leaves the state into Tennessee concurrent with I-155 near Caruthersville. Route description US 412 enters the state from Arkansas after crossing the St. Francis River. The highway enters into the small town of Cardwell before turning to the north. In Kennett, the highway turns back to the east, concurrent with Route 84. In Hayti, US 412 has an interchange with I-55 and travels concurrent with I-155. Monette is a city in Craighead County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,506 at the 2020 census. History On December 10, 2021, a large and violent EF4 tornado part of a large tornado outbreak struck Monette. One person was killed at a nursing home on the north side of town. Caruthersville Bridge
The Caruthersville Bridge is a single tower cantilever bridge carrying Interstate 155 and U.S. Route 412 across the Mississippi River between Caruthersville, Missouri and Dyersburg, Tennessee. It is the only bridge that connects Missouri and Tennessee. It stands downstream of the Cairo Mississippi River Bridge and upstream of the Hernando de Soto Bridge. History The bridge was first proposed in the early 1940s. A committee was created by both state legislatures to study the possibility of constructing the bridge in 1949. The site was chosen by the commission on November 18, 1952, which was subsequently approved by the Army Corps of Engineers on August 20, 1953. Construction of the bridge began in March 1969. The bridge cost and was opened on December 1, 1976, in a ceremony by Missouri Governor Kit Bond and Tennessee Governor Ray Blanton. Interstate 55 (I-55) in the US state of Missouri runs from the Arkansas state line to the Poplar Street Bridge over the Mississippi River in St. Louis. Route description I-55 enters Missouri at the Arkansas border near Cooter. It runs northward through mostly flat land in the Bootheel, where it has an interchange with U.S. Route 412 (US 412) and I-155. Missouri Route 84
Route 84 is a state highway in the Missouri bootheel. The route starts at Arkansas Highway 90 (AR 90) over the St. Francis River on the Arkansas–Missouri state line. The road travels eastward to Kennett, where it becomes concurrent with U.S. Route 412 (US 412). East of Kennett, the concurrent routes travel eastward on a divided highway to Hayti Heights, where the concurrency ends. Route 84 travels through Hayti Heights and Hayti, and it crosses Interstate 55 (I-55) and US 61. The route then travels southeastwards to Caruthersville, and bypasses the central area of the city. In the southern part of Caruthersville, Route 84 ends at an interchange with I-155 and US 412. Hayti (pronounced "HAY-tie") is a city in eastern Pemiscot County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,493 at the 2020 census. History Hayti was platted in 1894, when the railroad was extended to that point. According to one tradition, the name honors Dr. G. Hayes, an original owner of the site. It is also claimed the name is derived from the country of Haiti. A post office called Hayti has been in operation since 1895.
