There are at least thirteen current and three former special routes of U.S. Route 27. Williston–Perry alternate route U.S. Route 27 Alternate (US 27 Alt.) is a alternate route of US 27 that exists in the north-central part of the U.S. state of Florida. It is signed north–south, but is a primarily east–west route, traveling between Williston and Perry. US 27 Alt. is concurrent with US 19/ US 98 from Chiefland to Perry, and also has the hidden FDOT designation of State Road 55 (SR 55). Between Williston and Chiefland, it has the hidden SR 500 designation. US 27 Alt. is one of the primary routes between Northwest and Central Florida, having been recently four-laned along its entire length. In road transportation in the United States, a special route is a road in a numbered highway system that diverts a specific segment of related traffic away from another road. Florida State Road 30
State Road 30 (SR 30) is the mostly hidden Florida Department of Transportation designation for most of US 98 from the Florida-Alabama state line to east of Perry, Florida. In a 14-mile-long stretch west of Panama City, US 98 and SR 30 are separated by less than one mile (1.6 km), with SR 30 on Front Beach Road along the shore of the Gulf of Mexico in Hollywood Beach, Laguna Beach, and Panama City Beach, and US 98 inland (as unsigned State Road 30A) along Panama City Beach Parkway bypassing the beach communities. In 2009, the Florida DOT began signing Front Beach Road as SR 30, and removed US 98 Alt signs. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is the organization in charge of developing and maintaining all state and federal roadways in the U.S. state of Georgia. In addition to highways, the department also has a limited role in developing public transportation and general aviation programs.
