U.S. Route 25E (Virginia)
U.S. Route 25E (US 25E) is the eastern branch of U.S. Route 25 from Newport, Tennessee, where US 25 splits into US 25E and U.S. Route 25W, US 25W, to North Corbin, Kentucky, where the two highways rejoin. The road, however, continues as US 25E for roughly 2 miles (3.2 km) until it joins Interstate 75 in the Laurel County, Kentucky, Laurel County community of North Corbin at exit 29. The entire route serves as a Limited-access road, arterial expressway for long-distance travelers and truckers connecting central Appalachia to the Great Lakes region, Great Lakes and Eastern Seaboard of the United States, Eastern Seaboard regions of the U.S. via access to Interstate highways. All of US 25E in Tennessee, along with US 25 from Newport, Tennessee, Newport to the North Carolina state line, is designated as the East Tennessee Crossing Byway, a National Scenic Byway. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is Kentucky's state-funded agency charged with building and maintaining federal highways and Kentucky state highways, as well as regulating other transportation related issues. The Transportation Cabinet is led by the Kentucky Secretary of Transportation, who is appointed by the governor of Kentucky. The current Secretary is Jim Gray, who was appointed by Democratic Governor Andy Beshear. As of October 2012, KYTC maintains of roadways in the state. The KYTC mission statement is "To provide a safe, efficient, environmentally sound and fiscally responsible transportation system that delivers economic opportunity and enhances the quality of life in Kentucky."
