U.S. Rabbit Experimental Station
The U.S. Rabbit Experimental Station was the first and only facility in the United States set aside for the study of breeding and raising of rabbits. Started in 1928, in Fontana, California the station studied rabbits until it closed in 1965. The U.S. Rabbit Experimental Station was designated a California Historic Landmark (No.950) on June 9, 1982. A marker was placed in Fontana at the site. The station was built on land donated by A. B. Miller, the founder of Fontana. The property in Fontana developed procedures for rabbit care and breeding. The City of Fontana purchased the property and turned it into a senior citizens' facility in 1965. Azariel Blanchard Miller Azariel Blanchard Miller (1878–1941) is the founder of the city of Fontana. Fontana, California
Fontana is a city in San Bernardino County, California. Founded by Azariel Blanchard Miller in 1913, it remained essentially rural until World War II, when entrepreneur Henry J. Kaiser built a large steel mill in the area. It is now a regional hub of the trucking industry, with the east–west Interstate 10 and State Route 210 crossing the city and Interstate 15 passing diagonally through its northwestern quadrant. The city is about 46 miles east of Los Angeles. It is home to a renovated historic theater, a municipal park, and the Auto Club Speedway, which is on the site of the old Kaiser Steel Mill just outside the city. Rabbits, also known as bunnies or bunny rabbits, are small mammals in the family Leporidae (which also contains the hares) of the order Lagomorpha (which also contains the pikas). Azariel Blanchard Miller
Azariel Blanchard Miller (5 September 1878 – 13 April 1941) was an American farmer, rancher, and developer credited with founding the city of Fontana, California, in 1913. Miller Park, Miller Avenue, and Fontana A.B. Miller High School are community landmarks named after him. Personal life Miller was born in either Redlands, California or Richlands, North Carolina, to Joseph Kempster Miller and Eliza (Blanchard) Miller, he spent his childhood in Washington, D.C. before finishing his schooling in Riverside, California. He also attended one year at Claremont College in Pomona, California. His brother Kempster Blanchard Miller (1870–1933) was an electrical engineer and executive with the Kellogg Switchboard & Supply Company (1899–1904), and wrote what has been considered the seminal textbook on the telephone technology of the time, "'' American Telephone Practice''."
