U.S. Highway 71 (US 71) is a United States highway, U.S. highway that runs from Krotz Springs, Louisiana, Krotz Springs, LA to the Fort Frances–International Falls International Bridge at the Canada–United States border, Canadian border. In Arkansas, the highway runs from the Louisiana state line near Doddridge, Arkansas, Doddridge to the Missouri state line near Bella Vista, Arkansas, Bella Vista. In Texarkana, the highway runs along State Line Avenue with U.S. Route 59, US 59 and partially runs in Texas (northbound traffic is in Arkansas and southbound in Texas). Other areas served by the highway include Fort Smith metropolitan area, Fort Smith and Northwest Arkansas. The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT), formerly the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, is a government department in the U.S. state of Arkansas. Its mission is to provide a safe, efficient, aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sound intermodal transportation system for the user. The department is responsible for implementing policy made by the Arkansas State Highway Commission, a board of officials appointed by the Governor of Arkansas to direct transportation policy in the state. The department's director is appointed by the commission to hire staff and manage construction and maintenance on Arkansas's highways.
