U.N.V.
U.N.V. (or Universal Nubian Voices) was an R&B group based out of Detroit, Michigan. The group consisted of brothers John Powe and Shawn Powe, and members John Clay and Demetrius Peete. They are best known for their 1993 summer hit single, "Something's Goin' On". History U.N.V. or, Universal Nubian Voices, was a male quartet that came onto the scene in 1993 out of Lansing, Michigan with their debut album, ''Something's Goin On''. The group was composed of brothers John Powe and Shawn Powe, and members John Clay and Demetrius Peete. U.N.V. actually had its start in two separate groups, when Shawn created a group called 2.N.V. and John Powe created a group called U.N.V. with the idea of "You envy. "John's group saw success as he went to college and came to include all four members. It wasn't until after they had the name U.N.V. that Shawn gave the abbreviation its meaning of "Universal Nubian Voices". Maverick Records
Maverick was an American entertainment company founded in 1992 by Madonna, Frederick DeMann, and Veronica "Ronnie" Dashev, and formerly owned and operated by Warner Music Group. It included a record label (Maverick Records), a film production company (Maverick Films), book publishing, music publishing, a Latin record division (Maverick Música), and a television production company. The first releases for the company were Madonna's 1992 coffee table publication ''Sex'' and her studio album ''Erotica'', which were released simultaneously to great controversy as well as success. Journalist and biographer J. Randy Taraborrelli considered the existence of Maverick Records to be an "anomaly", as Madonna became one of the first female artists to have a ''real'' label and one of the few women to run her own entertainment company. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015. WJLB (97.9 FM) is a radio station in Detroit, Michigan. Owned by iHeartMedia, it broadcasts an urban contemporary format. WJLB's studios are located in Farmington Hills. WJLB's transmitter is located in Highland Park near the intersection of Hamilton Avenue and Midland Street, and transmits its signal from an antenna 489 feet in height with an Effective radiated power of 50,000 watts. History The station was initially authorized as W49D, with 1,000 watts of power at 44.9 megahertz. It began test broadcasts on May 7, 1941, and on May 24 officially began broadcasting as Michigan's second FM radio station. The station was owned by John Lord Booth, who was born in Detroit on June 13, 1907, and died in Grosse Pointe Farms on November 11, 1994, at the age of 87.
