Tårnborg (or Taarnborg), from 1671 until 1841 known as Dyrehavegaard, is a former manor house in Korsør, Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. The buildings are now part of Hotel Comwell Grand Park. The Neoclassical main building from 1803 and the manager's house () from 1843 were listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1982. History Origins Tårnborg was originally the name of a small fortified town whose fortifications were most likely constructed by Svend Grathe in the middle of the 12th century. After Svend Grathe's death, Tårnborg Castle was part of Valdemar I's crown land but lost its military importance when Korsør Castle was built. Tårnborg Castle's home farm () was from then on known as Korsør Castle's home farm. In 1458, Christian I allowed the farmers in the new town of Korsør to use the land for grazing in return for the payment of an annual fee. Korsør
Korsør is a town on Zealand, Denmark. It is located in Slagelse Municipality. Until 2007 Korsør was the seat of Korsør Municipality. The town is located west of Slagelse, north-west of Skælskør and connects to Nyborg through the Great Belt Bridge. Formerly the main ferry port from Zealand to Funen, the town of Korsør is divided into two halves by the Korsør Nor inlet, with the northern part named Halsskov. Slagelse Municipality is a municipality ( Danish: '' kommune'') in Region Zealand on the west coast of the island of Zealand (Danish: ''Sjælland'') in Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 571 km². Tårnholm
Tårnholm is a manor house and estate at Korsør, Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. The building was listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1949. History Early history Tårnholm was created when the former Antvorskov Cavalry District was divided into nine estates and sold in auction by the crown in 1774. The largest of the estates, Tårnborg, was acquired by Christian Eggers for 26,000 Danish rigsdaler and renamed it Tårnholm. Eggers was also the owner of e Dyrehovedgaard. Christian Egger's son Niels Christian Eggers inherited Taarnholm after his father's death in 1796. In 1793 Tårnholm was acquired by Peter Jensen Giersing for 62,500 rigsdaler. He was also the owner of Nordruplund. He constructed a three-winged manor house on the estate in 1798. Peter Jensen Giersing improved the quality of the soil. Valbygård
Valbygård is a manor house and estate located four kilometres northwest of Slagelse, Denmark. Created by Joachim Castenschiold in 1874 from land that had previously belonged to Antvorskov Abbey, the estate was in 1846 acquired by August Willads Bech and has since then remained in the Bech family. The current, Renaissance Revival style main building was built for August Willads Bech in 1855. It was listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1996. The estate covers 1,100 hectares of land. History Church property and crown land In the Middle Ages the land belonged to Antvorskov Abbey. The abbey was confiscated by the Crown during the Reformation and Valbygård was then turned into a royal fief. August Willads Bech
August Willads Bech (21 July 1815 - 28 May 1877) was a Danish landowner. He owned Valbygård at Slagelse and Borupgård at Borup. Valbygård is still owned by his descendants. Early life and education Bech was born on 21 July 1815 in Copenhagen, the son of merchant and ship-owner Jørgen Peter Bech (1782–1846) and Ellen Sophie Magdalene Meyer (1784–1846). He grew up in his father's house at Nybrogade 22 and later studied agriculture in Denmark and Mecklenburg. His elder brother was Edward Bech, the Danish Counsel in New York. Career In 1840, Bech purchased Fredsholm at Nakskov on Lolland. In 1846, he purchased Valbygård at Slagelse for 500,000 Danish rigsdaler and then parted with Fredsholm the following year.
