Tärendö River
The Tärendö River (Swedish: ''Tärendö älv'', Meänkieli: ''Täränönväylä'') is a small distributary river to the Kalix River in Norrbotten, Sweden. It is the second largest bifurcation in the world (second only to the Casiquiare canal, South America). The Tärendö River splits off the Torne River in Pajala Municipality, near the village of Junosuando, at an altitude of 210 m. It takes more than 50% of the water in the Torne River. It flows southeast for 52 km, passing Lautakoski and Koijuniemi, then empties into the Kalix River at the village of Tärendö at an altitude of 160 m. Tributuaries to the right side of the Tärendö River are Meras River, Leppä River, Saitta River, and Jukkas River. The Kari River flows into the Tärendö River on the left. Charlotte Kalla
Marina Charlotte Kalla (born 22 July 1987 in Tärendö) is a Swedish cross-country skier who has been competing at international level since the 2003–04 season. Kalla is a three-time Olympian, winning her first Olympic gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in the 10 km freestyle event in Vancouver. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi Kalla ran the final leg in the 4 × 5 km women's relay race and started third with a 25.7 seconds lag behind the first place but reduced the gap, overtaking her competitors in the final straight, earning Sweden the first gold medal in the women's relay event since 1968. Pajala Municipality
Pajala Municipality (; fi, Pajalan kunta) is a municipality in Norrbotten County in northern Sweden, bordering Finland. Its seat is located in the locality of Pajala. In 1884 Tärendö was detached from Pajala Municipality, forming a municipality of its own. In 1914 Pajala Municipality was once again split when Junosuando broke away. They were reunited in 1971, when Korpilombolo was added as well. Finnish and Meänkieli have the official status of being minority languages in the municipality. Gällivare Airport

Pajala Airport
Pajala Airport () is an airport in Pajala, Sweden. History The airport was opened for regular traffic in 1999. Before that, Pajala was said to be the most inaccessible municipality centre in Sweden, with around 5 hours travel time from central Stockholm (with propeller flight to Gällivare Airport, hand luggage only, and a 140 km journey by car from Gällivare to Pajala). A political principle was established at the time saying that there should be maximum four hours travel time between central Stockholm and any municipality centre, in order to make one-day business travel possible. The runway was extended by to in 2007, to be able to handle larger charter aircraft.
