Bill Tyrwhitt-Drake
Thomas William Tyrwhitt-Drake (5 November 1926 – 8 March 2008) was an English first-class cricketer. Tyrwhitt-Drake was born at Paddington in November 1926, to Reverend Charles William Tyrwhitt-Drake. He was educated at Haileybury, before going up to Trinity College, Cambridge. While studying at Cambridge he made his debut in first-class cricket for Cambridge University against Somerset at Bath in 1946. He made two further first-class appearances for Cambridge University, playing against the Marylebone Cricket Club in 1946 and Leicestershire in 1948. He scored 73 runs for Cambridge across six innings, with a top score of 33. Eleven years later he made a final appearance in first-class cricket for the Free Foresters against Oxford University. In addition to playing first-class cricket, Tyrwhitt-Drake also played minor counties cricket for Hertfordshire from 1946–58, making 85 appearances in the Minor Counties Championship. Edward Tyrwhitt Drake (15 May 1832 – 20 June 1904) was an English clergyman and first-class cricketer who played for Cambridge University, the Gentlemen, All-England, the Marylebone Cricket Club and other amateur sides between 1853 and 1873. He and other members of his extended family are often recorded by the double-barrelled surname of "Tyrwhitt-Drake". He was born at Bucknell, near Bicester, Oxfordshire and died at Amersham, Buckinghamshire. Garrard Tyrwhitt-Drake
__NOTOC__ Sir (Hugh) Garrard Tyrwhitt-Drake (22 May 1881 – 24 October 1964) was a businessman, zoo owner and author. Between 1915 and 1950, he was twelve times the Mayor of Maidstone, Kent and was High Sheriff of Kent in 1956–57. Life Tyrwhitt-Drake was born in Maidstone on 22 May 1881, the only child of Hugh William Tyrwhitt-Drake, a brewery manager, and his wife Anne (née) Hopper. He was educated at Charterhouse School. In 1925, he married Edna Mary Vine. Tyrwhitt-Drake was a director of several companies, including the Medway Lower Navigation Company, and was heavily involved in local politics, serving on the council of the Borough of Maidstone for 48 years and as its mayor twelve times. Montague William Tyrwhitt-Drake (January 20, 1830 – April 19, 1908) was an English-born lawyer, judge and political figure in British Columbia, Canada. Tyrwhitt-Drake represented Victoria City in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1882 to 1886. Career He was born in King's Walden, Hertfordshire, the son of the Reverend George Tyrwhitt-Drake, and was admitted to practice in England in 1851. Tyrwhitt-Drake came to British Columbia in 1863, settling in Victoria. He represented Victoria in the Legislative Council of British Columbia from 1868 to 1870. Charles Francis Tyrwhitt-Drake
Charles Frederick Tyrwhitt-Drake (2 January 1846 – 23 June 1874) was an explorer, naturalist, archaeologist, and linguist. He died during the PEF Survey of Palestine. He was the youngest son of Colonel W. Tyrwhitt Drake. He worked with the Palestine Exploration Fund in the East in the winter of 1870, in order to investigate the Hama inscriptions. In May 7 1873 he participated in the consecration of the first known masonic lodge in Palestine “Royal Solomon Mother Lodge N° 293” in Zedekiah cave Jerusalem as acting secretary. He died of fever on 23 June 1874 at Jerusalem, aged only 28. PEF Survey Of Palestine
The PEF Survey of Palestine was a series of surveys carried out by the Palestine Exploration Fund (PEF) between 1872 and 1877 for the Survey of Western Palestine and in 1880 for the Survey of Eastern Palestine. The survey was carried out after the success of the Ordnance Survey of Jerusalem by the newly-founded PEF, with support from the War Office. Twenty-six sheets were produced for "Western Palestine" and one sheet for "Eastern Palestine". It was the first fully scientific mapping of Palestine. Besides being a geographic survey the group collected thousands of place names with the objective of identifying Biblical, Talmudic, early Christian and Crusading locations. The survey resulted in the publication of a map of Palestine consisting of 26 sheets, at a scale of 1:63,360, the most detailed and accurate map of Palestine published in the 19th century. Francis Tyrwhitt Drake Wilson
Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Tyrwhitt Drake Wilson, OBE (9 April 1876 – 19 March 1964) was a British Army officer and cricketer who played minor counties cricket for Suffolk and first-class cricket for Army, Army and Navy, and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) sides. Born in Cottesbrooke, a small Northamptonshire village, Wilson was the oldest of three cricketing brothers, each of whom played for Suffolk in the Minor Counties Championship. The youngest brother, Herbert Wilson, went on to play for (and briefly captain) Sussex, playing more than 100 matches over eleven seasons at the club. The three brothers played together on numerous occasions, from the 1908 season through to the 1910 season. Tithe Barn, Maidstone
The Tithe Barn in Maidstone, Kent, is a large two-storey stone building on the east side of Mill Street. It was constructed in the 14th century as a tithe barn for the nearby Archbishop's Palace and was later used as the palace's stables. Construction is attributed to Archbishop Courtenay, who died in 1396. The barn is a Grade I listed building and a scheduled monument. It is home to the Tyrwhitt-Drake Museum of Carriages. Construction The barn is constructed of roughly coursed rag-stone rubble walls in six buttressed bays. The west façade features a projecting two-storey half-timbered porch with stone ground floor construction and brick infilling at first floor level between the timber framing. The building has multiple doorways at both levels on the west façade with many small windows at high level and external stone steps leading up to the first floor of the porch.
