Tyrone Square Mall
Tyrone Square (also referred to as Tyrone Square Mall) is an enclosed shopping mall in St. Petersburg, Florida. Opened in 1972, it features Dick's Sporting Goods, Dillard's, Five Below, J. C. Penney, Macy's, and PetSmart as its anchor stores. History Tyrone Square's first anchor, Sears, opened as a freestanding store in April 1968, 4 years before the rest of the mall. Tyrone Square Mall was built by the Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation and construction began in 1971. In addition to the pre-existing Sears, three additional anchors were planned for the mall, including JCPenney and Maas Brothers. Chess King was a United States men's clothing retailer created by the Melville Corporation. From its founding in 1968, it grew to over 500 locations by the mid-1980s, before an eventual decline, sale, and closure of the chain in 1995. History In 1967, traveling salespeople from Melville's Thom McAn shoe business noted a "wide open market" for young men's clothing, which gave birth to the idea of starting a young men's clothing and shoe store. Burdines
Burdines (} ) was an American chain of department stores operating in the state of Florida, headquartered in Miami. The original store opened in Bartow, Florida in 1896 as a carriage-trade shop. Over its nearly 110-year history, Burdines grew into a popular chain of department stores, known as 'The Florida Store,' decorated with palm trees in the center of the store, painted in pink and blue, and other subtropical colors and motifs. Maison Blanche (''White House'' in French) was a department store in New Orleans, Louisiana, and later also a chain of department stores. It was founded in 1897 by Isidore Newman, an immigrant from Germany. Casual Corner was an American retail clothing chain founded in 1950. It operated stores under the names Casual Corner, Petite Sophisticate and August Max Woman brands, among others, with more than 525 stores at its peak. History In 1950, childhood friends Charles E. Carples, a Sage-Allen manager, and Brown-Thomson buyer Stanley W. Vogel each borrowed $5,000 to co-found Casual Corner, opening its first retail store that April Fools Day in West Hartford, Connecticut. The first shop was 750 square feet and used poles, beams, and nets from old tobacco barns, and employed the founders' spouses as staff. Casual Corner broke tradition with retail conventions of the day, allowing women to physically browse clothing and try on items in fitting rooms, rather than encasing apparel behind glass. Orange Julius is an American chain of fruit drink beverage stores. It has been in business since the late 1920s and is noted for a particular drink, also called an Orange Julius. The beverage is a mixture of ice, orange juice, sweetener, milk, powdered egg whites and vanilla flavoring. History The drink grew out of an orange juice stand opened in Los Angeles, California, in 1926 by Julius Freed. Hot Sam Pretzels was an American restaurant chain selling soft pretzels. Julius Young opened the first outlet at Livonia Mall in a Detroit suburb in Michigan. In 1971, the owners sold the company to General Host, who then owned the Detroit-based retailer Frank's Nursery & Crafts. General Host sold it again in 1986. Mrs. Fields acquired the chain in 1995. Bresler's 33 Flavors was an American ice cream chain founded in 1927. Its founder was Polish immigrant William J. Bresler, who died in 1985. In 1954, Bresler's began a fast food hamburger chain called Henry's Hamburgers. The Bresler's chain was sold in 1987 to Oberweis Dairy in Aurora, Illinois. At the time, it comprised 300 stores, of which 297 were franchises.
