Tyrhaug Lighthouse ( no, Tyrhaug fyr; historical: ''Kyrhaug'') is a coastal lighthouse located in Smøla Municipality, Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It sits in the Edøyfjorden on the islet of Ringholmen, east of the island of Edøya, off the southeast coast of the main island of Smøla. The lighthouse is only accessible by boat. Candela
The candela ( or ; symbol: cd) is the unit of luminous intensity in the International System of Units (SI). It measures luminous power per unit solid angle emitted by a light source in a particular direction. Edøyfjorden is a fjord (more technically, a strait) in the Nordmøre region of Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The long fjord runs between Smøla Municipality and Aure Municipality with many large and small islands on both sides. Some of the major islands include Smøla, Edøya, and Kuli on the north side and Tustna, Stabblandet, Solskjeløya, Ertvågsøya, and Grisvågøya on the south side. Edøya
Edøya is an island in Smøla Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The island lies in the Edøyfjorden between the larger islands of Smøla (to the north) and Ertvågsøya and Tustna (to the south). The island played an important political role during the Viking Age. More recently, it was the center of the old municipality of Edøy and the historic Old Edøy Church is located on the island. In 2019, archaeologists from the Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research, using large-scale high-resolution georadar technology, determined that a 17 meter long Viking ship was buried near Edøy Church. They estimate the ship's age as over 1,000 years: from the Merovingian or Viking period; the group planned to conduct additional searches in the area. Smøla (island)
Smøla is the 19th largest island in Norway. The island is located in Smøla Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county; the vast majority of the municipality is the island. The island has a good road network across the island that connects it to many of the small surrounding islands, however, it does not have any outside road connections to the rest of Norway. The only regular ferry service is via the small island of Edøya to the south of Smøla which one can drive to from Smøla. The population of the island is mostly employed in the fishing industry or in industries that support the fishing industry. There is also a window factory on the island. Lighthouses In Norway
The coast of Norway is 100,915 km long and there have been a total of 212 lighthouses along it, but no more than 154 have ever been operational at the same time. The first, Lindesnes Lighthouse, opened in 1655; the newest Lighthouse, Anda, was finished in 1932. The first Lighthouses were private operations, but in 1821 the government made the Channel and Harbor Inspector responsible for Lighthouses in Norway. A dedicated Lighthouse Administration was set up in 1841. The Lighthouses are today mostly automated and since 1974, run by the Norwegian Coastal Administration. Two lightvessels had been operated along the Norwegian coast.
