Tyranids
In the fictional universe of ''Warhammer 40,000'', the Tyranids are a race and a playable army in the tabletop miniatures wargame. The Tyranids are described as a nomadic society of aliens which originated from beyond the Milky Way Galaxy and arrived on its periphery with the intent of consuming all life and biomass within. All individual Tyranid creatures are mildly telepathic and form a highly intelligent Hive Mind. There are numerous Tyranid forms, each one bio-engineered by the Hive Mind to serve a specific purpose. Tyranid technology is biological in nature, made up of living components termed ''biomorphs'' which fulfill similar roles to the technologies used by other races in ''Warhammer 40,000''. Epic (game)
Epic is a tabletop wargame set in the fictional ''Warhammer 40,000'' universe. Whereas ''Warhammer 40,000'' involves small battles between forces of a few squads of troops and two or three vehicles, Epic features battles between armies consisting of dozens of tanks and hundreds of soldiers. Due to the comparatively larger size of the battles, ''Epic'' miniatures are smaller than those in ''Warhammer 40,000'', with a typical human being represented with a 1:285 scale, 6mm high figure, as opposed to the 28mm minis used in ''Warhammer 40,000''. Since being first released in 1988 as ''Adeptus Titanicus'', it has gone through various editions with varying names. ''Space Crusade'' is an adventure board game produced by Milton Bradley Company, Milton Bradley together with Games Workshop and was first made in 1990. It was produced in the United Kingdom, UK and available in some other countries including Finland, Ireland, France, Spain, Denmark, Australia and New Zealand. In Germany, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands, it is known as ''Star Quest''. It is a sister game to ''HeroQuest (board game), HeroQuest'', which was also produced by Milton Bradley and Games Workshop. It uses many of the concepts of the Games Workshop's ''Space Hulk'' and ''Warhammer 40,000'' games, but at a much simpler level of game play. The game was designed by Steven Baker. Shock Troops
Shock troops or assault troops are formations created to lead an attack. They are often better trained and equipped than other infantry, and expected to take heavy casualties even in successful operations. "Shock troop" is a calque, a loose translation of the German word ''Stoßtrupp''. Assault troops are typically organized for mobility with the intention that they will penetrate enemy defenses and attack into the enemy's vulnerable rear areas. Any specialized, elite unit formed to fight an engagement via overwhelming assault (usually) would be considered shock troops, as opposed to "special forces" or commando-style units (intended mostly for covert operations). Both types of units could fight behind enemy lines, by surprise if required, however. Centaur
