Typhoons (women's Cricket)
Typhoons are an Irish women's cricket team that compete in the Women's Super Series. The team has no geographical base, instead being made up of some of the best players from across Ireland. They are captained by Rebecca Stokell and coached by Paul Davidge. They won their first Super Series title in 2020. History Typhoons were established in 2015 to compete in the Women's Super 3s, a tournament designed to bridge the gap between club cricket and international cricket in Ireland. The team was made up of some of the best players in Irish cricket, and were captained by Elena Tice and coached by Matt Lunson. Typhoons finished bottom of the league in their first season, with two wins from their eight matches. The following season, 2016, Typhoons again finished bottom, this time with just one victory, in their final match against Dragons. Rebecca Stokell
Rebecca Stokell (born 13 March 2000) is an Irish cricketer. She made her Women's One Day International cricket (WODI) debut against South Africa in the 2017 South Africa Quadrangular Series on 11 May 2017. She plays in the Women's Super Series for Typhoons. In June 2018, she was named in Ireland's squad for the 2018 ICC Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament. In October 2018, she was named in Ireland's squad for the 2018 ICC Women's World Twenty20 tournament in the West Indies. The following month, she was named the Female Academy Player of the Year at the annual Cricket Ireland Awards. In May 2019, she was named in Ireland's Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) squad for their series against the West Indies. 2021 Arachas Super 50 Cup
The 2021 Arachas Super 50 Cup was the 50 over section of the seventh Women's Super Series competition, taking place in Ireland. The tournament ran from April to June, alongside the Twenty20 Arachas Super 20 Trophy. Mary Waldron
Mary Veronica Waldron (born 5 May 1984) is an Irish association football player and cricketer who has represented both the Republic of Ireland women's national football team and the Ireland women's cricket team. She has also stood as an umpire in cricket matches. Football Club career Waldron was nominated for the FAI Under–18 Women Player of the Year in 2001 and 2002, while playing for St James's Gate. She was awarded a sport scholarship to University College Dublin in 2003. In the 2004 FAI Women's Cup final at Lansdowne Road, Waldron played in UCD's 4–1 win over Dundalk City. Georgina Dempsey (born 29 July 2004) is an Irish cricketer who plays for Typhoons and Ireland. In May 2021, Dempsey was named in Ireland's squad to face Scotland, for a four-match Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) series in Belfast. She made her WT20I debut on 27 May 2021, for Ireland against Scotland. Leg Spin
Leg spin is a type of spin bowling in cricket. A leg spinner bowls right-arm with a wrist spin action. The leg spinner's normal delivery causes the ball to spin from right to left (from the bowler's perspective) when the ball bounces on the pitch. For a right-handed batsman, that is away from the leg side, and this is where it gets the name leg break. Leg spinners bowl mostly leg breaks, varying them by adjusting the line and length, and amount of side spin versus topspin of the deliveries. Leg spinners also typically use variations of flight by sometimes looping the ball in the air, allowing any cross-breeze and the aerodynamic effects of the spinning ball to cause the ball to dip and drift before bouncing and spinning or "turning", sharply. Off Spin
Off spin is a type of finger spin bowling in cricket. A bowler who uses this technique is called an off spinner. Off spinners are right arm, right-handed spin bowling, spin bowlers who use their fingers to spin the ball. The captain of a cricket team, often referred to as the skipper, is the appointed leader, having several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of the other players. Fast bowling (also referred to as pace bowling) is one of two main approaches to bowling in the sport of cricket, the other being spin bowling. Practitioners of pace bowling are usually known as ''fast'' bowlers, ''quicks'', or ''pacemen''. Not Out
In cricket, a batter is not out if they come out to bat in an innings and have not been dismissed by the end of an innings. The batter is also ''not out'' while their innings is still in progress. Occurrence At least one batter is not out at the end of every innings, because once ten batters are out, the eleventh has no partner to bat on with so the innings ends. Usually two batters finish not out if the batting side declares in first-class cricket, and often at the end of the scheduled number of overs in limited overs cricket.
