Bristol Type 27
The Bristol Tourer was a British civil utility biplane produced in the years following the World War I, First World War, using as much as possible from the design of the Bristol F.2 Fighter, Bristol Fighter aircraft. Bristol Tourers were delivered with a variety of Piston engine, engines, subject to availability and customer desires; these included the Rolls-Royce Falcon, Siddeley Puma, Hispano-Suiza 8, and Wolseley Viper. Many Tourers were fitted with a Aircraft canopy, canopy to cover the one or two passenger seats in the rear cockpit, giving the type its original name of Coupé. The pilot's cockpit, however, remained open. Peugeot Type 27
The Peugeot Type 27 is an early motor vehicle produced between 1899 and 1902 by the French auto-maker Peugeot at their Audincourt plant. Only 29 were produced. This automobile had a brougham car body, similar to the older brougham carriage. The vehicle was powered by a rear-mounted 1056 cc two cylinder four stroke engine, manufactured by Peugeot themselves. The engine's two cylinders were mounted in parallel and not in the V-format used for the company's first petrol engined vehicles. Although the car was larger than the contemporary Peugeot Type 24 and Peugeot Type 26, the mechanical approach and layout were similar. The engine was mounted behind the driver and his (or, at least in principle, her) passengers above the rear axle. Nieuport Type 27
The Nieuport 27 (or Nieuport XXVII C.1 in contemporary sources) was a World War I French sesquiplane fighter aircraft designed by Gustave Delage. The 27 was the last of the line of Nieuport "V-strut" single seat fighters that began with the Nieuport 10 of 1914. Operational examples supplemented the very similar Nieuport 24 and 24bis in operational squadrons in late 1917 and many would also be used as advanced trainers. German Type U 27 Submarine
SM ''U-27'' was a German Type ''U-27'' U-boat built for service in the Imperial German Navy. She was launched on 14 July 1913, and commissioned on 8 May 1914 with Kapitänleutnant Bernd Wegener in command. On 18 October 1914, the British submarine was torpedoed and sunk in the North Sea by ''U-27''. This was the first action in which one submarine sank another. Sinking of HMS ''E3'' had sailed from Harwich on 16 October to patrol off Borkum in the North Sea. On 18 October, ''E3'' spotted some German destroyers ahead but was unable to get into a position to take a shot at them. Unable to pass them, Commander Cholmley retreated into the bay to wait for them to disperse. As he did so, he failed to see that the bay was also occupied by ''U-27'', under ''Kapitänleutnant'' Bernd Wegener. British Hardened Field Defences Of World War II
British hardened field defences of World War II were small fortified structures constructed as a part of British anti-invasion preparations. They were popularly known as '' pillboxes'', a reference to their shape. Design and development In May 1940, the directorate of Fortifications and Works (FW3) was set up at the War Office under the direction of Major-General G. B. O. Taylor. Its purpose was to provide a number of basic but effective pillbox designs that could be constructed by soldiers and local labour at appropriate defensive locations. In the following June and July, FW3 issued six basic designs for rifle and light machine gun, designated Type 22 to Type 27. In addition, there were designs for gun emplacements suitable for either the Ordnance QF 2 pounder or the Hotchkiss 6pdr gun (designated Type 28) and a design for a hardened medium machine gun emplacement.
