''Dark is the Night'' (Тёмная ночь, lit. ''Dark Night'') is a famous Soviet song associated with the Great Patriotic War. It was originally performed by Mark Bernes in the 1943 war film '' Two Soldiers''. The song was composed by Nikita Bogoslovsky (1913-2004), lyrics by Vladimir Agatov specially for the film '' Two Soldiers''. Leonid Utyosov, without knowledge and without permission of authors and film unit, recorded the song, thus becoming the first to do so, but it was Bernes' performance that made it so popular. In the film, Bernes is a soldier who recalls his wife and baby at night while singing the song. Ivan Rebroff (31 July 193127 February 2008) was a German-born vocalist, allegedly of Russian ancestry, who rose to prominence for his distinct and extensive vocal range of four and a half octaves, ranging from the soprano to bass registers. Life and career Rebroff was born in Berlin as Hans-Rolf Rippert to German parents. Jewish Motifs International Film Festival ( pl, Międzynarodowy Festiwal Filmowy Żydowskie Motywy) is a major Jewish-themed film festival held annually in Warsaw, Poland. Leon Prudovsky ( Hebrew: לאון פרודובסקי; Russian: Леонид Прудовский) (born May 24, 1978) is an Israeli film director, producer, screenwriter and actor. Farhad Mehrad (20 January 1944 – 31 August 2002), commonly known as Farhad, was an Iranian pop, rock, and folk singer, songwriter, guitarist and pianist, who released the first English rock and roll album in Iran. He rose to prominence among Iranian rock, folk and pop musicians before the Islamic Revolution in 1979, but after the revolution, he was banned from singing for several years in Iran. Wiera Gran, real name Dwojra Grynberg (20 April 1916 – 19 November 2007) was a Polish singer and actress of Jewish ancestry. Wiera Gran had a low alto voice even in early 1934, when at the age of 17 when—using the pseudonym Sylvia Green—she made her first recording, the tango ''Grzech''. She sang in the Cafe Paradis in Warsaw in the early 1930s. While most of her recordings are in the Polish language, she sang in Yiddish in the movie ''On a heym (Without a home)'' with Shimon Dzigan and Israel Shumacher.
