Tyler Kornfield
Tyler Kornfield (born February 9, 1991) is an American Olympic cross-country skier. Early and personal life Kornfield was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, the son of Ed and Robin Kornfield. His father was originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, moved to Alaska in 1978, and worked for the United States Department of the Interior, Office of Aviation Services (OAS), as Chief of Fleet Services. He has a sister, named Tamra. He attended high school at Service High School in Anchorage, graduating in 2009. He then attended that University of Alaska Fairbanks in Fairbanks, Alaska, graduating in 2013 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Skiing career Kornfield began skiing at age three. His club is the Alaska Pacific Nordic Center. His club coach is Erik Flora, and his Team USA national coach is Chris Grover. Competitive cross-country skiing encompasses a variety of race formats and course lengths. Rules of cross-country skiing are sanctioned by the International Ski Federation and by various national organizations. International competitions include the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, the FIS Cross-Country World Cup, and at the Winter Olympic Games. Such races occur over homologated, groomed courses designed to support classic (in-track) and freestyle events, where the skiers may employ skate skiing. The men's 15 kilometre freestyle cross-country skiing competition at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held on 16 February 2018 at 15:00 KST at the Alpensia Cross-Country Skiing Centre in Pyeongchang, South Korea. In the victory ceremony, the medals were presented by Gian-Franco Kasper, member of the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee, accompanied by Urs Lehmann, President of the Swiss Ski Association. Qualification A total of up to 310 cross-country skiers qualified across all eleven events.
