The Ty Cobb Healthcare System in Royston, Georgia, Royston in the US state of Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia began as a single hospital in 1950, with a donation by baseball player Ty Cobb. Since then it grew to include a new medical center, smaller local health centers, and hospitals. Ty Cobb Healthcare System is a private self-supporting nonprofit health care organization consisting of Cobb Memorial Hospital, Cobb Memorial Outpatient Diagnostic Center, Brown Memorial Convalescent Center, Cobb Health Care Center, Home Base Health Services, Hart County Hospital, Cobb Center Apartments, Inc. and Ty Cobb Regional Medical Center. Building the latter medical center (in 2010) made the system run a debt of over $60 million; in 2015, the Ty Cobb Regional Medical was taken over by St. Mary's Health Care and its parent, Trinity Health (Livonia, Michigan), Trinity Health, for $12.9 million. Royston is a city in Franklin, Hart, and Madison counties in the U.S. state of Georgia. The population was 2,649 at the 2020 census. History A post office called Royston has been in operation since 1878. The community was named after W.A. Royston, a local merchant. The Georgia General Assembly first incorporated Royston in 1879. Geography Royston is located in the southeast corner of Franklin County and the southwest corner of Hart County at (34.285592, -83.109841). A small portion extends south into Madison County. U.S. Route 29 passes through the center of town, leading northeast to Hartwell and southwest to Athens. Georgia State Route 17 leads north from Royston to Lavonia and southeast to Elberton.
