Robert Land
Robert Land (1887–1940) was an Austrian-Jewish film director of Moravian descent. Biography Born as Robert Liebmann to a German-speaking Jewish Family in Kroměříž. Land moved to Vienna to study German literature and art history. He started directing movies in 1919. He chose the pseudonym Robert Land in order to avoid being mistaken with film critic and screenwriter Robert Liebmann (1890-1942). He made movies in Austria and Germany until 1933, when he fled to Czechoslovakia after Nazis' rise to power. Unable to find work he went to Italy in 1934, before returning to Prague a year later. He directed three movies in Czechoslovakia – ''Jana'' (1935), ''Arme kleine Inge (1936) and '' The Doll'' (1938). In 1938 he moved to Paris, where he died on 12 October 1940. He's buried at Cimetière parisien de Thiais. Oskar Marion
Oskar Marion (2 April 1896 – March 1986) was an Austrian film actor. Life Born as Oskar Viktor Lepka in Brno on 2 April 1896. His parents were physician Antonín Lepka and Žofie Lepková (née Müller). Marion went to study medicine to Vienna, but after 1 year he had to enlist to be an ambulance driver, when World War I broke out. After the war ended he decided to become an actor. He worked at Wiener Kammerspiele, Brno City Theatre, Estates Theatre and several theatres in Berlin. From 1919 to 1940 he acted mostly in German and Austrian movies. He had a few roles in Czech movies, because he was fluent in both German and Czech. After the end of his acting career, he worked as an assistant director and producer in West Germany. La Jana (born Henriette Margareta Niederauer, later surnamed Hiebel; 24 February 1905 – 13 March 1940) was an Austro-German dancer and actress. Life and career Born in Vienna as Henriette Margareta "Henny" Niederauer, the illegitimate daughter of the master gilder Heinrich Hiebel and his housekeeper Anna Niederauer, her parents did not wed until 1909, in Frankfurt. Her family was Jewish. The children grew up in the old city, near the Goethe House. Henny's older sister, Anny, later trained as an opera singer.
