Two Oceans Marathon
The Two Oceans Marathon is a 56 km / 35-mile ultramarathon and 21 km half-marathon held annually in Cape Town, South Africa on the Saturday of the Easter weekend. On occasions when Chapman's Peak Drive has been closed due to construction or rock falls, the Ultra Marathon has followed an alternative route over Ou Kaapse Weg. Kirstenbosch
Kirstenbosch is an important botanical garden nestled at the eastern foot of Table Mountain in Cape Town. The garden is one of 10 National Botanical Gardens covering five of South Africa's six different biomes and administered by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI). Prior to 1 September 2004, the institute was known as the National Botanical Institute. Kirstenbosch places a strong emphasis on the cultivation of indigenous plants. When Kirstenbosch was founded in 1913 to preserve the flora native to the South Africa’s territory, it was the first botanical garden in the world with this ethos, at a time when invasive species were not considered an ecological and environmental problem. Willie Mtolo
William Bhekizizwe Mtolo (born May 5, 1964) is a South African former long-distance runner who mainly competed in marathons. He is a former New York Marathon winner and two-time runner-up of the Comrades Marathon. He represented his country at the 1993 World Championships in Athletics, but failed to finish in the marathon. For the bulk of his early career, Mtolo was banned from competing internationally until 1992, due to the South Africa sports boycott associated with apartheid. He began to have success at national level in his early twenties. He won the Johannesburg-Pretoria 50K and the Durban Athletic Club Marathon in 1984 and won the latter title again four years later. He also demonstrated his abilities over the half marathon with wins at the Dick King Half Marathon in 1985 and 1990. Zithulele Sinqe
Zithulele Sinqe (9 June 1963 – 22 December 2011) was a South African long distance runner. Biography He was born in Mthatha. In the 1980s, and despite restrictions under apartheid, Sinqe emerged as one of the leading marathon and half-marathon athletes in the world. His two greatest races were the 1986 South African marathon championships, where he won in 2:08:04 in a titanic struggle with Willie Mtolo, who was second in 2:08:15. and his even closer contest over the half marathon with Matthews Temane in July 1987 in East London. Both men were credited with the same time of 60:11 but Temane was adjudged to have just defeated Sinqe. In addition to the 1986 South African marathon championships, Sinqe also won the 1987 edition before Willie Mtolo won on two occasions. Bongmusa Mthembu (born 27 June 1983) is a South Africa ultramarathon runner. He was born in Bulwer, a village near Pietermaritzburg, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. After matriculation he left Bulwer for Pietermaritzburg. He was hired as a bricklayer. At that time he was running only for fitness. In 2004 he started to enter races then in 2005 he won the Maritzburg Marathon. He is known for his achievements at the Comrades Marathon, run annually between Durban and Pietermaritzburg in South Africa, where he is a 3-time winner (2014, 2017 and 2018) and an 8-time gold medal winner, finishing in the top 10 between 2009 and 2019.
